Abstract
Isu Lesbian, Gay, Biseksual, dan Transgender (LGBT) menjadi sorotan dan diskusi publik di dunia internasional khususnya di Indonesia. Sejumlah besar outlet media di Indonesia melakukan kekerasan simbolik terhadap komunitas LGBT yang kebanyakan memojokkan LGBT. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui bagaimana upaya Magdalene sebagai media feminis dalam mengkonstruksi isu LGBT di Indonesia, menganalisis tendensi serta ideologi yang mendasari representasi dalam penulisan artikel mengenai LGBT di Indonesia dalam Web Magazine Magdalene Periode Agustus 2018-Februari 2019. Peneliti menggunakan jenis penelitian deskriptif kualitatif dan metode analisis wacana kritis model Teun A. van Dijk. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa Magdalene menawarkan platform terhadap efek kepanikan keragaman seksual dari masyarakat dengan mempublikasikan argumen tandingan dalam wacana. Peneliti menemukan empat upaya yang dilakukan oleh Magdalene yaitu upaya penyediaan platform bagi kelompok LGBT untuk menyalurkan ekspresi kegelisahannya, upaya untuk mengkritisi aparat Negara dan pejabat publik terhadap perlakuan diskriminasi dan persekusi terhadap LGBT, upaya sarana edukasi mengenai pemahaman dasar orientasi seksual dan identitas atau ekspresi gender dan upaya persuasif kepada khalayak untuk ikut membela hak kaum LGBT. Web Magazine Magdalene memiliki tendensi pembelaan terhadap kaum LGBT pada penulisan artikelnya yang merepresentasikan LGBT sebagai kaum minoritas dan termarginalkan yang harus dilindungi terutama pada elemen stilistik “minoritas gender”, “kaum marginal”, “kelompok yang sangat rentan” dan elemen retoris berupa gambar yang menegaskan bahwa kelompok LGBT merasa terpojokkan hingga tidak ada tempat bagi mereka untuk hidup di tengah masyarakat Indonesia. Web Magazine Magdalene memiliki ideologi mengenai masyarakat progresif, kesetaraan gender dan perlindungan terhadap hak asasi manusia.
English Abstract
Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender (LGBT) people are becoming public discussions around the world, especially in Indonesia. A large number of media outlets in Indonesia have carried out symbolic violence against the LGBT community which have mostly cornered LGBT. This study aims to find out how Magdalene attempt as feminism media in constructing LGBT issues in Indonesia and explain the tendencies as well as ideologies of LGBT in Indonesia from August 2018 until February 2019. The researcher used descriptive qualitative method and Teun A. van Dijk's model of critical discourse analysis. The results of the study indicate that Magdalene offers a platform regarding to the panic effect of sexual diversity from society by publishing counter arguments in discourse. The researcher found four efforts made by Magdalene which are effort to provide a platform for LGBT groups to channel their expressions of anxiety, attempt to criticize state and public officials related to discrimination and persecution to LGBT people, effort to educate people on basic understanding of sexual orientation and gender identity and expression, and persuasive effort to the public to defend the rights of LGBT people. Magdalene Web Magazine has a tendency of defending LGBT in articles that represent LGBT as minorities and marginalized in Indonesian society and need to be protected, especially in stylistic element such as "gender minorities", "marginal groups", "very vulnerable groups" and rhetorical element in the form of images which emphasize that LGBT people feel cornered so that there is no more place for them to live in the midst of Indonesian society. The ideology that underlies representation in LGBT article is the Magdalene's view of progressive society, gender equality and protection of human rights.
