Abstract
English Abstract
This study aims to find out social support and the frequency of the message content in online support group Facebook Bipolar Care Indonesia. Bipolar Care Indonesia itself is a community that accommodates people with bipolar, caregiver, and anyone who cares about bipolar. This online support group already has 17.633 members. In this study, researcher wanted to see the application of Social Information Processing Theory (SIPT). This theory assumes that all communication is motivated to develop social relations (Guo & Goh, 2014). SIPT also claims that individuals can achieve the same level of relational warmth as face-to-face communication (Griffin, 2012). SIPT will prove if socio-emotional content is more dominant than information content. researcher used measurements of five types of social support based on the Social Support Behavior Code (SSBC) model developed by Cutrona and Suhr (1992). For research method, researcher used content analysis. From this study, it can be seen that the Facebook group Bipolar Care Indonesia has socio-emotional content with a total percentage of 53.44% with negative emotions 19.76% (550 messages), supports esteem 14.15% (394 messages), emotional supports 12, 14% (338 messages), network supports 3.74% (104 messages), tangible assistance 3.66% (102 messages). For informational content the percentage is 46.56% (1296 messages). So the socio-emotional content is 5.88% more. And this proves that this Facebook group applies SIPT
