Abstract

Siswa sekolah menengah perlu belajar tentang pemahaman membaca karena, itu adalah salah satu kemampuan penting dalam belajar bahasa Inggris. Untuk mengukur pemahaman membaca siswa, tes membaca diperlukan. Meski begitu, banyak siswa mengalami kesulitan mengerjakan tes membaca. Itu terjadi karena tes membaca yang diberikan oleh guru yang tidak menganalisis kesulitan item, item diskriminasi, gangguan, dan keandalan. Namun, analisis ini diperlukan untuk membuktikan bahwa tes membaca telah memenuhi kriteria tes yang baik. Kriteria tes yang baik diperlukan dalam membuat tes membaca karena tes membaca digunakan untuk mengukur pencapaian kelas sepuluh. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengembangkan tes membaca berdasarkan kompetensi dasar, indikator pembelajaran, pelajaran bahasa Inggris, dan ujian untuk memenuhi kriteria tes yang baik. Metode penelitian ini adalah desain penelitian dan pengembangan (R&D). Peneliti mengadaptasi teori Borg dan Gall (1983) dalam mengembangkan tes membaca. Peneliti menguji tes membaca berdasarkan kriteria tes yang baik yang diadaptasi dari Heaton (1990), Hughes (2003), dan Brown (2004). Tes membaca terdiri dari 20 item yang fokus pada rincian tersirat, ide-ide utama, dan makna kata tersebut. Peneliti mengambil semua siswa X IPA 1 SMAK Frateran Malang sebagai peserta untuk melakukan uji coba membaca setelah dikembangkan. Kemudian, hasil uji coba dianalisis menggunakan Item and Test Analysis Program (ITEMAN) versi 4.3 untuk mengevaluasi tes membaca apakah dapat digunakan atau tidak. Berdasarkan hasil analisis item, ada tiga item yang digunakan secara langsung, empat belas item lainnya digunakan dengan revisi dan tiga item lainnya diganti dengan item baru. Oleh karena itu, dapat disimpulkan bahwa tes membaca siap untuk menguji pemahaman membaca untuk siswa kelas sepuluh.

English Abstract

Senior high school students need to learn about reading comprehension because, it is one of the essential abilities in learning English. To measure the students reading comprehension, a reading test is needed. Nevertheless, many students find difficulties in working the reading test. It happens because the reading tests which are given by teachers who do not analyze item difficulty, discrimination, distractor, and reliability. Nevertheless, those analyses are needed to prove that the reading test has met criteria of good tests. Criteria of good tests are needed in making the reading test because the reading test is used for measuring the achievement of the tenth grade. This study purposes at developing the reading test based on basic competence, learning indicators, English lessons, and it examines to meet the criteria of good test. The method of this study is Research and Development (R&D) design. The researcher adapted Borg and Gall's (1983) theory in developing the reading test. The researcher examined the reading test based on the criteria of good test that was adapted from Heaton (1990), Hughes (2003), and Brown (2004). The reading test consists of 20 items that focus on implied details, main ideas, and word meanings. The researcher took all students of X IPA 1 of SMAK Frateran Malang as the participants to do tryout of the reading test after it was developed. Then, the tryout results are analyzed by using Item and Test Analysis Program (ITEMAN) version 4.3 to evaluate the reading test whether it can be used or not. Based on the results of the item analysis, there are three items used directly, fourteen other items used with revisions and three other items replaced by new items. Therefore, it can be concluded that the reading test is ready for testing the reading comprehension of the tenth grade students.
