Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan menyelidiki makna ritual Dia de los Muertos dan nilai-nilai kekeluargaan orang Meksiko yang ditunjukan dalam film ini. Pendekatan fungsionalisme dan teori narrative elemen serta cinematography elemen diterapkan untuk menganalisis ritual Dia de los Muertos. Dia de los Muertos adalah ritual untuk menghormati leluhur mereka. Penelitian ini juga mengungkapkan bahwa dalam film Coco ini, ada tiga aspek dari nilai Familismo Meksiko, yaitu; (1) Kebersamaan dan Kedekatan, (2) bergaul dengan keluarga, (3) berkontribusi pada kesejahteraan keluarga, yang mana tergambar dalam ritual Dia de los Muertos.

English Abstract

This research aims to investigate the meaning of Dia de los Muertos ritual and the family values manifested in the Coco movie. Functionalism approach and theories on narrative element and cinematography elements were applied to analyze the ritual of Dia de los Muertos. The finding show that Dia de los Muertos is mainly used to express the Mexican people’s respect toward their ancestors. In addition this study reveals that in Coco, there are three aspects of Mexican Familismo value, namely (1) Togetherness and Closeness, (2) getting along with family, (3) contributing to family well-being, which are put into practice by the Rivera family during the celebration of Dia de los Muertos in this movie.
