Abstract

Electropolishing adalah teknik finishing/polishing permukaan secara elektrokimia dan sandblasting adalah metode perlakuan permukaan untuk meningkatkan sifat mekanik material. Pada penelitian ini kedua metode tersebut digunakan pada stainless steel AISI 316L. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh waktu penembakan dalam proses sandblasting dan waktu perendaman dalam proses electropolishing terhadap kekasaran dan laju korosi pada stainless steel 316L. Kekasaran permukaan spesimen diuji sebelum dan sesudah perlakuan sandblasting dan electropolishing. Alat yang digunakan adalah mesin sandblasting dengan tekanan kerja 5 bar dengan durasi 5 menit 10 menit dan 15 menit. Pasir yang digunakan adalah pasir silica dengan ukuran 100-400μm. Alat yang digunakan pada proses electropolishing adalah DC power supply dengan output maximum 30V. Material anoda dan Katoda adalah stainless steel AISI 316L.Larutan elektrolit terdiri dari 96% asam sulfat (H2SO4)dan 85% asam fosfat (H3PO4) dengan perbandingan 1:1. Parameter yang digunakan dalam proses electropolishing adalah waktu perendaman 5 menit, 6 menit , dan 7 menit. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa peningkatan waktu sandblasting dan waktu electropolishing akan menurunkan kekasaran rata rata permukaan dan laju korosi .Spesimen dengan perlakuan sandblasting 15 menit dan waktu electropolishing 7 menit memiliki kekasaran dan laju korosi terendah dibandingkan spesimen yang lainnya yaitu kekasaran sebesar 1.018 μm dan laju korosi sebesar 0.00143 mmpy sedangkan spesimen dengan perlakuan sandblasting 5 menit dan waktu electropolishing 5 menit memiliki kekasaran dan laju korosi terbesar yaitu kekasaran sebesar 1.99 μm dan laju korosi sebesar 0.004656 mmpy.

English Abstract

Electropolishing is a polishing technique/surface finishing which is carried out electrochemically, and sandblasting is a surface treatment method to improve the mechanical properties of the material. In this study, both methods were used on AISI 316L stainless steel . This study aims to investigate the effect of shooting time in the sandblasting process and immersion time in the electropolishing process on the surface roughness and corrosion rate of 316L stainless steel .. The surface roughness of the specimens was tested before and after sandblasting and electropolishing treatment. The equipment used was sandblasting machine with a working pressure of 5 bars with duration of 5 minutes 10 minutes and 15 minutes. The abrasive material used was silica sand with size of 100-400μm. The equipment used in the electropolishing process is a DC power supply with a maximum output of 30V. The anode and cathode material were stainless steel AISI 316L. Electrolyte solution consisted of 96% sulfuric acid (H2SO4) and 85% phosphoric acid (H3PO4) with a ratio of 1:1. The parameters used in the electropolishing process were 5 minutes, 6 minutes and 7 minutes immersion time. The results showed that the increase in sandblasting time and electropolishing time reduce the surface roughness and corrosion rate. The specimens with 15 minute sandblasting treatment and 7 minutes electropolishing time had the lowest roughness and corrosion rate compared to the other specimens, with surface roughness of 1.018 μm and corrosion rate of 0.00143 mmpy while specimens with 5 minute sandblasting treatment and 5 minute electropolishing time have the greatest roughness and corrosion rate, with surface roughness of 1.99 μm and corrosion rate of 0.004656 mmpy.
