Abstract

Pemerintah Australia mengeluarkan kebijakan luar negeri pada bulan Oktober tahun 2012 yang tertuang di dalam Australia in the Asian Century White Paper. Kebijakan tersebut berisikan tujuan-tujan ekonomi Australia yang harus dicapai hingga tahun 2025 di tengah kebangkitan perekonomian negara-negara Asia dan Australia wajib memiliki strategi yang tepat dalam menghadapi tantangan strategis tersebut. Disebutkan bahwa salah satu strategi untuk mencapai goal dari kebijakan luar negeri tersebut adalah dengan memperkuat hubungan people-to-people dengan masyarakat Asia. Australia yang memiliki catatan impresif dalam menggelar pentas olahraga tingkat internasional kemudian mempergunakan turnamen AFC Asian Cup 2015 dalam mendekat dengan Asia. Dalam mendeskripsikan upaya Australia tersebut, penulis menggunakan konsep Sport Diplomacy sebagai Instrumen dari Soft Power oleh Håvard M. Nygård dan Scott Gates melalui variabel-variabel Image Building, Building a Platform for a Dialogue, Trust Building, dan Economy as Confounding Factor.

English Abstract

Australian Government released a foreign policy white paper called Australia in the Asian Century on October 2012. The white paper contains Australia’s intended economical goal by 2025 in the middle of Asian Countries’ rapid economical growth trend where Australia is required to have the accurate strategy in order to face that strategic challenge. In the white paper is mentioned that one of Australia’s strategy in order to reach the foreign policy’s goal is by fostering Asian people-to-people relationship. Australia, with several impressive records in organizing international sporting events thus using the AFC Asian Cup 2015 to engage to Asia. In describing those Australia’s efforts, the Author then uses the concept of Sport Diplomacy as the Instrument of Soft Power by Håvard M. Nygård and Scott Gates through the variables mentioned in the concept such as Image Building, Building a Platform for a Dialogue, Trust Building, and Economy as Confounding Factor.
