Abstract

Penelitian ini mengkaji tentang makna masyarakat Desa Balongdowo saat ini mengenai Tradisi sedekah laut Nyadran di desa mereka. Tradisi ini sesungguhnya adalah bentuk syukuran warga atau khususnya para nelayan atas hasil laut yang mereka peroleh. Namun sejak sekitar 10 tahun terakhir, tradisi ini justru dijadikan ajang untuk berjoget di atas perahu oleh para pemuda desa. Aksi para pemuda ini kemudian semakin besar dan seakan melekat pada pengertian masyarakat sekitar mengenai Tradisi Nyadran di Desa Balongdowo. Dilatarbelakangi oleh adanya fenomena perubahan budaya tersebut, penelitian ini bertujuan untuk meneliti apakah pemahaman masyarakat Desa Balongdowo saat ini mengenai Tradisi Nyadran juga mengalami perubahan atau tidak. Penelitian ini selanjutnya menggunakan metode penelitian kualitatif dengan pendekatan fenomenologi analisis teori interaksionisme simbolik. Lokasi penelitian terletak di Desa Balongdowo, Kecamatan Candi, Kabupaten Sidoarjo. Teknik penentuan informan adalah dengan teknik purposive, dengan informan antara lain warga desa yang pernah maupun yang tidak pernah mengikuti Tradisi Nyadran, serta pemuda desa yang berjoget di atas perahu. Hasil dari penelitian ini adalah : pemahaman masyarakat Desa Balongdowo mengenai Tradisi Nyadran adalah berbeda-beda. Ada yang tetap memahami sebagai ungkapan rasa syukur serta bentuk penghormatan kepada Dewi Sekardadu, namun ada juga yang mengalami perubahan, yang mana mereka lebih memahami tradisi ini sebagai ajang pertunjukkan sound system. Hal ini disebabkan pengetahuan yang mereka miliki serta interaksi yang mereka lakukan berbeda-beda, sehingga membuat pemaknaan mereka menjadi berbeda pula. Penelitian ini juga mendapatkan hasil bahwa Dewi Sekardadu merupakan sosok yang mempunyai posisi penting dan sentral dalam Tradisi Nyadran di Desa Balongdowo.

English Abstract

This study examines the meaning of the Nyadran sea alms tradition for the Balongdowo Village community today. This tradition is actually a form of thanksgiving of the citizens or especially the fishermen for the marine products they obtain. But since about the last 10 years, this tradition has been used as a place to dance on a boat by village youth. The actions of these young people then grew larger and seemed to be attached to the understanding of the surrounding community regarding the Tradition of Nyadran in the village of Balongdowo. Based on the phenomenon of cultural change, the study aims to examine whether the understanding of the balongdowo villagers today regarding the tradition of Nyadran has also changed or not. This study uses a qualitative research method with a phenomenological approach to the model of analysis of symbolic interactionism. The research location is located in Balongdowo Village, Candi District, Sidoarjo Regency. The technique of determining informants was purposive, with informants including villagers who had and who had never followed the Nyadran Tradition, and village youth who danced on boats. The result of this study are : the understanding of the Balongdowo villagers regarding Nyadran tradition are different. There are those who still understand it as an expression of gratitude and respect for Dewi Sekardadu, but there are also those who experience changes, which they better understand the tradition as a venue for sound system show. This is due to the knowledge they have and the interactions they make are different, so it making their meanings are different too. This study also found that Dewi Sekardadu was a figure who had an important and central position in the tradition of Nyadran in Balongdowo Village.
