Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengembangan filter berbahan limbah serabut kokon dan untuk menginvestigasi efisiensi filter dalam mengurangi konsentrasi PM2,5. Limbah serat kokon dikeringkan secara alami sebelum dibentuk menjadi lembaran tipis. Terdapat lima variasi filter dengan lima macam ketebalan yang berbeda: F1 (1 lapis), F2 (2 lapis), F3 (3 lapis), F4 (4 lapis), and F5 (5 lapis). Ketebalan filter bervariasi antara 1,24 x 10-4 m sampai dengan 6,71 x 10-4 m, bergantung pada jumlah lapisan yang digunakan. Konsentrasi PM2,5 yang diemisikan sampel sepeda motor diukur selama 5 menit menggunakan Digital Dust Monitor (Kanomax, Model 3443). Efisiensi filter didefinisikan sebagai rasio pengurangan konsentrasi PM2,5 sebelum dan sesudah melewati filter. Berdasarkan hasil yang diperoleh, diketahui bahwa efisiensi filter sebesar 5% hingga 26% yang bergantung pada ketebalan filter, di mana semakin tebal lapisan filter yang digunakan akan mengakibatkan efisiensi filter semakin meningkat.

English Abstract

This study was aimed to develop a cocoon waste fiber filter for a motorcycle exhaust system and to investigate the filter efficiency in terms of the PM2.5 reduction. The cocoon waste fiber was air-dried before being processed to the filter layers. There were five filters in five different thicknesses: F1 (1 layer), F2 (2 layers), F3 (3 layers), F4 (4 layers), and F5 (5 layers). The thickness of the filters was varied between 1.24 x 10-4 m to 6.71 x 10-4 m, depended on the filter layers. The concentrations of the PM2.5 emitted by motorcycle samples was measured for 5 minutes using a Digital Dust Monitor (Kanomax, Model 3443). The filter efficiency was obtained from the ratio between the concentrations of PM2.5 before and after passing through the filter. According to the results, the filter efficiency was 5 – 26% depended on the filter thickness. The more thickness of the filter, the more efficiency obtained.
