English Abstract

Culexsp mosquitoes are vectors of filariasis, West Nile Virus (WNV), and Japanese encephalitis. Culex sp. is zooantropophilic, which likes animals and humans as prey and has the habit of sucking blood at night (night biter). Measures to prevent transmission of diseases by Culexsp can be done with insecticides. Nowadays, there are still many people who use synthetic insecticides or chemical pesticides that are practical and easy to obtain. However, using chemical pesticides can damage the environment. So, it is necessary to use natural insecticides that are more environmentally friendly, such as the use of turi leaf extract (Sesbaniagrandiflora) which contains flavonoids to kill mosquitoes. Turi leaves are part of the Turi plant which contains flavonoids, saponins, tannins, glycosides, and peroxidases. This research is a laboratory experimental study with an experimental test design post-control group design which aims to determine the effect of changes in flavonoid levels on the storage of ethanol extract of turi leaves on their potential as a natural insecticide against Culex sp. by spray method. The extraction concentration used was 22.5%. The One-Way ANOVA test results shown that there was significant relation between the length of storage and the potential of ethanol extract of turi leaves as a natural insecticide (p< 0.05) but post hoc test resulsts shown that there was significant relation bertween group of days (p<0.05) and there was a significant relationship between the length of storage and a decrease in flavonoids in turi leaves (p <0.05). There was a very strong corellation in Pearson test. So it can be concluded that the storage of ethanol extract for five days had significant effect on the reduction of its potential as an insecticide.
