Abstract
Penelitian ini menggunakan metode experiment, dengan ukuran spesimen tarik sesuai standar ASTM D638-03. Dalam penelitian ini, digunakan komposit serat pelepah gebang tanpa perendaman NaOH, 1 jam perendaman NaOH, 2 jam perendaman NaOH dan 3 jam perendaman NaOH. Pembuatan spesimen komposit untuk uji tarik dilakukan dengan metode Vacuum Infusion yang memiliki tekanan maksimal -23atm pengujiannya menggunakan alat uji tarik serat tunggal dengan merek IMADA berkapasitas 50-60N , pengujian komposit polyester berpenguat serat pelepah gebang menggunakan alat uji tarik berkapasitas max load 20KN. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa komposit bermatrik polyester dengan perendaman 0 jam atau tanpa perendaman NaOH 5% memiliki kekuatan tarik paling tinggi dibanding dengan variasi perendaman yang lain. Perbedaan kekuatan tarik dari berbagai variasi disebabkan oleh sifat dan karakteristik serat akibat perendaman NaOH yang berbeda pula. Perendaman NaOH bertujuan untuk memperbaiki sifat permukaan untuk menghilangkan zat lignin pada serat kersen untuk meningkatkan kekuatan ikatan antara serat dan matrik polyester. Tetapi pada konsentrasi 5% NaOH pada perendaman 1 jam, 2 jam berangsurangsur menurun sehingga pada 3 jam perendaman menunjukkan kekuatan tariknya paling kecil dikarenakan zat dan komposisi kimia pada serat terdegradasi dan melemahkan kekuatan serat saat bercampur dengan matrik polyester.
English Abstract
This study uses an experimental method, with the size of the tensile specimen according to ASTM D638-03 standards. In this study, fiber composites were use without NaOH immersion, 1 hour of NaOH immersion, 2 hours of NaOH immersion and 3 hours of NaOH immersion. The making of composite specimens for tensile testing was carried out using the Vacuum Infusion method which has a maximum pressure of -23 μm. The test uses a single fiber tensile test equipment with the brand IMADA with a capacity of 50-60N, testing of fiber reinforced polyester composites using a 20KN max load tensile test equipment. The results showed that polyester-based composites with 2-hour soaking 5% NaOH had the highest tensile strength compared to other soaking variations. The difference in the tensile strength of various variations is due to the nature and characteristics of fiber due to different NaOH soaking. The NaOH soaking aims to improve the surface properties to remove lignin from the fiber to increase the bond strength between the fiber and the polyester matrix. But at a concentration of 5% NaOH at 1 hour immersion, 2 hours gradually decreased so that at 3 hours immersion showed the smallest tensile strength because the substance and chemical composition in the fiber were degraded and weakened the strength of the fiber when mixed with the polyester matrix.
