Abstract

Buku ajar adalah salah satu hal terpenting dalam proses belajar mengajar. Hal tersebut bisa membantu guru dan siswa dalam penyampaian materi secara langsung. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menemukan apakah topik pada buku “When English Rings A Bell” untuk siswa kelas delapan tingkat sekolah menengah pertama sudah memenuhi kriteria berdasarkan teori Cunningsworth (1995). Model penelitian yang digunakan dalam pembelajaran ini adalah kualitatif deskriptif. Data diambil di semester pertama dari bab 1 sampai 6 karena itu sudah bisa mewakilkan buku tersebut bagus atau tidak. Penelitiannya berfokus pada topik yang terdapat pada buku. Data analisis berdasarkan pada ceklis kriteria. Peneliti menggunakan ceklis yang diadaptasi dari Cunningswoth (1995). Hasil dari penelitian menunjukan bahwa buku “When English Rings A bell” untuk siswa kelas delapan tingkat sekolah menengah pertama sudah memenuhi semua criteria untuk topik yang bagus berdasarkan criteria dari Cunningsworth (1995). Peneliti menemukan bahwa topik yang nyata tercantum dalam buku, topic pada buku bisa menambah pengalaman siswa, topik yang digunakan sesuai dengan tingkatan pelajar, topic pada buku menggunakan materi yang autentik dan topic pada buku bisa memotivasi siswa. Buku tersebut menerapkan metode pengajaran yang berpusat pada siswa yang menjadi pokok pembelajaran berdasarkan pada kurikulum 2013, mempunyai banyak aktivitas yang bervariasi dan membuat siswa lebih tertarik dalam proses belajar mengajar. Maka dari itu, peneliti memberikan saran dalam penggunaan buku ajar, guru harus mempertimbangkan apakah buku tersebut layak digunakan dan sesuai dengan pembelajaran siswa.

English Abstract

In learning course, coursebook is one of important things in teaching learning process. It helps both teacher and students for having directed material. This study was conducted to find out whether the topic from “When English Rings a Bell” for Junior High School grade VIII have fulfilled the criteria of evaluation theories which are proposed by Cunningsworth (1995). This study used descriptive qualitative study as the design. The data was taken in the first semester of the coursebook from chapter 1 until 6 because those chapters have already represented the evaluation theories. The researcher only focuses on topic and subject content of the coursebook. The data was analyzed based on the checklist criteria. The researcher used checklist that adopted from Cunningsworth (1995) Result of this study was stated that “When English Rings a Bell” for Junior High School grade VIII coursebook has been fulfilled all of the criteria of topic and subject content appropriate to the criteria of Cunningsworth (1995). The researcher found that the real topic is included in this coursebook, the topic helps expanding students’awareness and enrich their experiences, the topic sophisticated enough in content, the topic is using the authentic material and the topic motivate students. Furthermore, this courseboook applied students centered teaching method and also has variety of activities which make the students interested in learning process. Therefore, the researcher suggests that in using coursebook, the teachers have to consider whether the coursebook is good coursebook and appropriate to students’ in learning.
