Utama, Alif Noer (2018) The Implementation Of Jungian Psychology Theory In The Narrative And Gameplay Mechanics Of Persona 4 And Persona 5. Sarjana thesis, Universitas Brawijaya.
Abstract
English Abstract
Persona is a role-playing video game series developed by Atlus. As this video game series was considered by many people to use psychological-related themes in their games, the writer wanted to find the implementation from the psychology theory in the games. In this research, the writer used two games, namely Persona 4 and Persona 5 from the series because they were the latest games in the series that the writer has played. The writer applied 3 particular concepts from the Jungian theory, they are The Persona, The Shadow, and The Collective Unconscious. The data that were collected were taken in the form of various screenshots that depicted many in-game scenes and dialogues that were related to the Jungian concepts. The result of this research shows that both games applied the 3 Jungian concepts within the games in some capacity. In their implementations, there were some alterations and also changes to the Jungian concepts, but these changes did not really differ much from the original concepts. The suggestions for the next researchers are to use other games from the Persona series, as the series itself has a lot of games with many potentials to be studied further and the next researcher could also analyze Persona games using different academic theories or approaches.
