Abstract
Pada era ini, media mempunyai peran penting dalam membentuk sikap dan opini publik mengenai persoalan tertentu. Salah satu genre media yang sudah menjadi bagian dari masyarakat ada artikel berita. Artikel berita menyampaikan informasi dari sudut pandang yang berbeda-beda mengikuti ideologi yang dipercaya oleh penulis. Artikel berita dapat dianalisis menggunakan teori Perspektvisasi oleh Renkema melalui tiga pendekatan; visi, fokalisasi, dan empati. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk menemukan bagaimana perspektivisasi terlihat dalam artikel di The Guardian dan The Huffington Post mengenai hukum cambuk terhadap dua pria homoseksual di provinsi Aceh bulan Mei lalu. Peneliti meneliti dua artikel berita online dengan menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif yang berfokus pada analisa tekstual dalam rangka untuk menjelaskan perbedaan sudut pandang ideologi kedua penulis dalam menyampaikan isu tersebut. Data penelitian ini diambil dari kedua situs web berita resmi. Peneliti menemukan bahwa pandangan kedua artikel dari The Guardian dan The Huffington Post sangatlah berbeda. Penulis artikel dari The Guardian berada pada sisi kontra yang terlihat pada penggunaan diksi negatif seperti toxic, sinister, vicious and thuggish. Sementara itu, penulis artikel dari The Huffington Post menggunakan diksi positif seperti necessary, legitimacy, constitutionally valid, most definitive untuk menunjukkan sisi pro terhadap isu tersebut. Untuk fokalisasi, terungkap bahwa kedua penulis tidak melibatkan diri dalam cerita namun mereka hanya mengamati dari luar. Selain itu, dalam kedua artikel, empati lebih ditunjukkan kepada Aceh dibanding subyek lainnya.
English Abstract
In this era, media has a crucial role in shaping public’s opinion or attitude towards certain issue. One of media genres which has become part of society is news article. News article represents information in different perspectives following the ideology believed by the writer. News article can be analyzed by using Renkema’s perspectivization theory through three approaches; vision, focalization and empathy. The aim of this research is to discover how the perspectivization is reflected in The Guardian and The Huffington Post articles about public caning of two homosexual men in Aceh province last May. The researcher investigated two online news articles by using qualitative approach which is focused on the textual content analysis in order to explain the ideological perspective differences of both writers in portraying the issue. The data were taken from both of the official news websites. The researcher found out that the ideological perspectives of both articles from The Guardian and The Huffington Post are clearly different. The writer of The Guardian’s article stands as a cons side which is shown by the usage of negative diction such as toxic, sinister, vicious and thuggish. Meanwhile, the writer of The Huffington Post’s article uses positive diction such as necessary, legitimacy, constitutionally valid, most definitive to show his pros side of the issue. As for the focalization, it is revealed that both of the writers did not involve themselves in the story but they only observed the issue from the outside. Moreover, in both articles, more empathy is directed towards Aceh than the other subjects.
