Abstract
Bahasa adalah fungsional karena digunakan untuk membuat makna. Karena teks mengandung makna dalam berbagai situasi yang ada, kita membutuhkan model untuk memahami bagaimana teks itu bekerja untuk membuat makna. Systemic Functional Linguistics dapat melakukan analisa ini sehingga dapat dimengerti makna secara keseluruhan terutama penggunaan tipe proses dalam system transitivity. Karenanya, tujuan utama dalam studi ini adalah mendiskripsikan hubungan antara klausa, tipe-tipe proses dan posisi Ahok dilihat dari fungsi Ideational yang digunakan penulis dalam merepresentasikan BTP dalam artikel editorial online di The Jakarta Post. Studi ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif. Data utama yang digunakan adalah artikel editorial berjudul ‘Injustice for Ahok’ yang dipublikasikan pada hari Rabu, 10 Mei 2017. Artikel ini dipilih karena merepresentasikan struktur teks yang kompleks dengan kalimat-kalimat panjang. Tujuannya adalah melihat bagaimana SFL menganalisa kompleksitas dalam mendiskripsikan dan melihat Ahok yang mendapat hukuman penjara selama 2 tahun itu terepresentasikan. Hasil dari analisa data menunjukkan bahwa teks tersebut mempunyai karakteristik pola yang special dalam memberikan informasi yang ditandai dalam beberapa hal berikut 1) klausa banyak dikembangkan dengan Hypotactic, 2) proses yang dominan digunakan adalah Material yang berarti bahwa artikel kebanyakan berurusan dengan aktivitas atau aksi yang dilakukan oleh Participant yang terlibat, 3) dilihatdari Ideational Function, BTP diposisikan paling sering sebagai sebagai korban. Peneliti memberikan saran untuk peneliti yang akan dating agar dapat melanjutkan studi ini dengan menggunakan fungsi dalam bidang Systemic Functional Linguistics seperti Interpersonal atau Textual.
English Abstract
Language we use is functional because it is used to make meaning. Since the text contains meaning through various kinds of situation given, we need a model of language that helps us understand how texts work to make meaning. Systemic Functional Linguistics can do this in order to understand the whole meaning especially in using type of process through system of transitivity. Hence, the main objective of this study is to describe the relationship between clauses, the types of processes and the position of Ahok seeing from the Ideational Function that the writer used to represent Basuki Tjahaja Purnama in The Jakarta Post editorial online article. This study uses qualitative approach. The main data used in this study is editorial article entitled ‘Injustice for Ahok’ that was published on Wednesday May 10, 2017. This article is chosen by the researcher since the article is represent a complex structure of text with long sentences. The aim is to see how SFL can analyze its complexity to describe its representation meaning to see how Ahok, who has been sentenced to two years of imprisonment is represented. The result of data analysis shows that the text has special pattern characterizing in giving the information as indicated by 1) the clause is developed mostly with Hypotactic, 2) the dominant use of Processes of Material means that the article mostly deals with the activities or actions performed by the Participant involved, 3) seeing from the Ideational Function, BTP is positioned mostly as a victim in the article. The researcher suggests for the future research may be continuing this study to the other functions in the framework of Systemic Functional Linguistics such as Interpersonal or Textual Function.
