Abstract
Sikap menjadi salah satu faktor penting yang dapat mempengaruhi seseorang ketika belajar sebuah bahasa. Dalam penelitian ini, peneliti ingin meneliti sikap mahasiswa jurusan Ilmu Ekonomi di Universitas Brawijaya terhadap pembelajaran bahasa Inggris. Ada tiga rumusan masalah dalam penelitian ini, yaitu: (1) Bagaimana sikap mahasiswa jurusan Ilmu Ekonomi di Universitas Brawijaya terhadap pembelajaran bahasa Inggris dalam aspek kognitif?; (2) Bagaimana sikap mahasiswa jurusan Ilmu Ekonomi di Universitas Brawijaya terhadap pembelajaran bahasa Inggris dalam aspek afektif?; dan (3) Bagaimana sikap mahasiswa jurusan Ilmu Ekonomi di Universitas Brawijaya terhadap pembelajaran bahasa Inggris dalam aspek konatif? Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif dan penulis menggunakan metode survei untuk mengumpulkan data. Populasi dalam penelitian ini adalah 1150 mahasiswa Ilmu Akuntansi Universitas Brawijaya. Kemudian, penulis mengambil 100 siswa sebagai sampel penelitian. Penulis mengadopsi kuesioner Jafre untuk digunakan sebagai instrumen dalam penelitian ini. Setelah mengumpulkan data dari siswa, penulis menganalisis data dengan menggunakan Microsoft Excel. Kemudian, penulis memberikan skor rata-rata sikap untuk mengetahui hasil akhir sikap mahasiswa terhadaap pembelajaran bahasa Inggris. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan skor rata-rata komponen kognitif adalah 3,43, skor rata-rata komponen afektif adalah 2,90, skor rata-rata komponen konatif adalah 2,88, dan skor rata-rata dari keseluruhan sikap adalah 3,06. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa siswa menunjukkan sikap positif terhadap pembelajaran bahasa Inggris dalam hal kognitif, tetapi untuk aspek afektif dan konatif siswa mendapat sikap negatif terhadap pembelajaran bahasa Inggris. Untuk keseluruhan sikap mereka menunjukkan sikap positif dikarenakan nilai rata – rata sikap adalah >3. Penulis menyarankan agar guru bahasa Inggris harus lebih memperhatikan pentingnya sikap siswa untuk meningkatkan pembelajaran bahasa.
English Abstract
Attitude becomes one of important factors that could influence individual’s performance in learning a language. The present study investigated the attitudes of Accounting students in Universitas Brawijaya towards English learning. There were three research questions to be investigated in the present study, namely: (1) How are the attitudes of Accounting students in Universitas Brawijaya towards English language learning in term of cognitive aspect?; (2) How are the attitudes of Accounting students in Universitas Brawijaya towards English language learning in term of affective aspect?; and (3) How are the attitudes of Accounting students in Universitas Brawijaya towards English language learning in term of conative aspect? This study used quantitative approach and the writer used survey method to collect the data. The population was 1150 Accounting students of Universitas Brawijaya. Then, the writer took 100 students as the sample. The writer adopted the Jafre questionnaire to be used as the instrument in the present study. After collected the data from the students, the writer analyzed the data by using Microsoft Excel. Then, the writer provided the mean score to know the result. The result showed the mean score of cognitive component was 3,43, the mean score of affective component was 2,90, the mean score of conative component was 2,88, and the mean score of overall attitudes was 3,06. The result revealed that the students showed positive attitudes towards English learning in terms of cognitive, but for affective and conative aspect the students got negative attitudes toward English learning. For the overall attitudes the result is positive because the overall attitudes is >3. The writer suggested that English teachers should pay more attention to the importance of the students’ attitudes in order to enhance the language learning.
