Abstract
Roommate relationship merupakan hubungan yang terbentuk antara dua orang asing yang tinggal dalam satu kamar bersama-sama. Roommate relationship pada perguruan tinggi menjadi sangat unik dibandingkan dengan hubungan interpersonal mahasiswa biasa karena mereka tinggal bersama dan dapat dipasangkan secara sukarela maupun tidak sukarela. Kedua individu yang belum pernah tinggal bersama dan tidak memiliki hubungan darah, harus tinggal dalam satu kamar dengan latar belakang yang berbeda. Situasi tersebut dapat memunculkan kontradiksi dalam roommate relationship. Penelitian ini ditujukan untuk mengetahui dan menjelaskan dialektika relasional yang terjadi pada roommate relationship serta kontradiksi yang terjadi di dalamnya. Pada penelitian ini, peneliti menggunakan paradigma interpretif dan menggunakan metode etnografi pada tujuh mahasiswa yang menjalin roommate relationship di Griya Brawijaya. Pada penelitian ini, peneliti menggunakan teknik analisis data tematik dari Braun dan Clarke. Berdasarkan hasil temuan, ciri khas yang muncul dalam roommate relationship di Griya Brawijaya yaitu adanya isu sukarela dan tidak sukarela. Terdapat toleransi ketika adanya perbedaan kebiasaan, sikap dan sifat, serta terciptanya pembagian ruang, aturan dan tanggung jawab dalam kamar yang menjadi ruang privat sekaligus ruang publik. Ciri khas dapat memunculkan kontradiksi dalam roommate relationship. Roommate relationship menghadapi kontradiksi connection – autonomy, inclusion – seclusion, openness – closedness dan cultural – individual. Penelitian ini menyajikan kebaruan dalam hal kontradiksi yang ditemukan dalam roommate relationship. Sekaligus menemukan bahwa hubungan yang terbangun dalam roommate relationship bersifat dinamis.
English Abstract
Roommate relationship is a relationship formed between two strangers who live in one room together. Roommate relationships in universities are very unique compared to ordinary interpersonal relationships in students, because they live together and can be paired voluntarily or involuntarily. Both individuals who have never lived together and have no blood relations must live in one room with a different background. This situation can create contradictions in the roommate relationship. This research is aimed to know and explain the relational dialectics that formed in roommate relationships and the contradictions that occured in them. In this study, researcher used interpretive paradigm and used ethnographic methods on seven students who established roommate relationships at Griya Brawijaya. In this study, researcher analyzed using thematic data analysis techniques from Braun and Clarke. Based on the findings, the characteristic appeared in roommate relationship in Griya Brawijaya is the existence of voluntary and involuntary issues. There is tolerance when there are differences in habits, attitudes and traits, as well as the creation of a division of space, rules and responsibilities in a room that becomes a private space as well as public space. Characteristics can create contradictions in the roommate relationship. Roommate relationships face contradictions of connection - autonomy, inclusion - seclusion, openness - closedness and cultural - individual. This research presents a novelty in terms of contradictions found in the roommate relationship. At the same time find that the relationships built into the roommate relationship are dynamic.
