Abstract

Konsep diri merupakan penilaian seseorang terhadap dirinya sendiri yang berdasarkan pada penilaian orang lain terhadap dirinya. Konsep diri dalam komunikasi antar pribadi menjadi penting, karena konsep diri yang dimiliki seseorang akan mempengaruhi tingkah lakunya. Selanjutnya, dari tingkah laku kita dapat menilai seseorang tersebut memiliki konsep diri positif atau negatif. apabila konsep diri yang dimiliki seseorang positif, maka komunikasi antar pribadinya juga baik, namun apabila konsep dirinya negatif maka komunikasi interpersonalnya juga menjadi kurang baik. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui dan menganalisis tentang konsep diri mahasiswa tunarungu pada konteks komunikasi antar pribadi. Informan dalam penelitian ini adalah tiga orang penyandang tunarungu yang mampu berkomunikasi secara oral dan melanjutkan pendidikan di kampus inklusif. Pendekatan yang digunakan pada penelitian ini yaitu kualitatif dengan jenis penelitian deskriptif. Pengumpulan data menggunakan wawancara dan observasi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa konsep diri yang dimiliki informan berdasarkan pada persepsi orang lain terhadap dirinya dan diperkuat dengan faktorfaktor pembentukan konsep diri. Secara keseluruhan mahasiswa tunarungu yang berada di kampus inklusif memiliki konsep diri positif dan negatif. Namun pada penelitian ini, kecenderungan konsep diri yang dimiliki oleh ketiga informan yaitu positif berdasarkan pada beberapa tanda yang dikelompokkan oleh William D. Brooks dan Philip Emmert. Hal ini ditandai dengan ketiga informan menyadari kekurangan yang ada pada diri mereka dan mampu menerima kekurangannya dengan baik, tidak mudah marah, mampu menerima pujian dengan tanpa malu, dan merasa setara dengan orang lain.

English Abstract

Self concept is a judgment of a person towards him/herself based on judgment of other person towards him/her. Self concept in interpersonal communication is important, since it affects behavior. Furthermore, from someone’s behavior we are able to judge whether he/she has positive or negative self concept. If it is positive, the interpersonal communication is good. But if it is negative, his/her interpersonal communication is not good. This research is aim to know and analyze about self concept of deaf students in the context of interpersonal communication. The informants of this research are three deaf students who continue their study in inclusive campus and also able to communicate orally. This research is using qualitative approach and belongs to descriptive research. The researcher using interview and observation methods in collecting the data. The result of this research shows that self concept of the informants are based on other people’s perception through them and strongly created by factors of self concepts. Therefore, the deaf students in inclusive campus has positive and negative self concepts. The researcher finds that three informants have positive self concept based on several signs that grouped by William D. Brooks and Philip Emmert. Three informants realize their incapability on their self and accept their incapability, not easily angry, receives praise shamelessly, and feel the equivalent of others.
