Abstract
Film merupakan salah satu media untuk menyampaikan pesan kepada khalayak, begitu pula film independen karya komunitas kampus. Karakteristik film independen yang kontroversial dan bersifat idealis, membuat film independen lebih kaya akan nilai-nilai moralitas sebagai kritik sosial dibandingkan dengan film komersil (film bioskop). Sampai saat ini, film independen terus berkembang dan memiliki andil besar pada perfilman Indonesia. Hal tersebut dapat dilihat dari banyaknya komunitas film independen dengan berbagai karyanya, serta banyaknya festival film yang diselenggarakan di Indonesia pada setiap tahunnya. Sedangkan komunitas film kampus, telah memberikan karya terbanyak atas produksi film independen di Indonesia. Salah satu komunitas film kampus yang berkecimpung di ranah film independen ialah Societo Sineklub FISIP UB. Dalam perjalanannya, Societo telah menghasilkan beberapa karya film yang mengandung kirtik atas lingkungan sosial di sekitar film maker, seperti film Potret karya Iqbal Rifqi dan film Jumprit Singit karya Mahesa Desaga yang menagndung konsep modernitas sebagai bentuk kritik sosial. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui bagaimana pandangan penonton atas nilai-nilai moralitas sebagai kritik sosial dalam film independen kampus, Societo Sineklub pada film Potret dan Jumprit Singit. Sehingga dapat menjelaskan bagaimana penerimaan penonton atas modernitas yang terkandung dalam film Potret dan Jumprit Singit yang diproduksi oleh Societo Sineklub sebagai bagian dari komunitas kampus pegiat film independen di Indonesia. Sedangkan pendekatan yang digunakan ialah interpretif, yaitu kualitatif deskriptif dengan metode Analisis Resepsi. Hasil yang didapatkan peneliti dalam penelitian ini ialah (1) Mahasiswa FISIP UB (audiens) menerima adanya konsep modernitas yang digambarkan oleh film maker dalam film Potret dan Jumprit Singit karya Societo Sineklub FISIP UB yang tergolong ke dalam posisi dominant (hegemonic) reading dan negotiated reading; (2) Film pendek independen dapat menyampaikan pesan dengan baik bila film maker mampu membingkai film sesuai dengan segmentasi penonton yang diinginkan.
English Abstract
Film is one of the media to convey a message to the audience, the same as what happens to independent film created by campus community. The controversial and idealistic characteristics of independent films, have resulted in richer values in terms of morality as social criticism than commercial films (cinema). Hitherto, independent films keep on growing and have contributed big shares in Indonesian film industry. It can be seen from various works of hundreds of independent film communities, in parallel with numerous film festivals held annually in Indonesia. Meanwhile, the campus film community has given its largest creation on independent film production in Indonesia. One of the campus film community which has actively involved in the field of independent film, is Societo Sineklub FISIP UB. On its journey, Societo has produced several films that contain critics towards the social environment around filmmakers, for instance; Potret by Iqbal Rifqi and Jumprit Singit by Mahesa Desaga that enclose the concept of modernity as an embodiment of social criticism. This study aimed at identifying how the audience viewpoint towards the values of morality as a social criticism in campus independent film, Societo Sineklub on the film Potret and Jumprit Singit. Thus it was expected to explain how the audience acceptance on the sense of modernity in the Potret and Jumprit Singit films produced by Societo Sineklub as a part of the independent campus community of film activists in Indonesia. Accordingly, the employed approach was interpretive, that combines qualitative descriptive with Reception Analysis method. The researcher has obtained imparted results (1) FISIP UB -Faculty of Social and Political Science University of Brawijaya- students (audience) have accepted the portrayals of modernity concept by film maker in the Potret and Jumprit Singit films, created by Societo Sineklub FISIP UB; (2) An independent short film can convey messages effectively when a film maker is able to frame the film departing from the expected audience segmentation.
