Abstract
Secara teroretis, androgyny merupakan upaya untuk menghapus hubungan normatif antar jenis kelamin dan gender dengan memadukan karakteristik maskulin dan feminin. Konsep androgyny bermula dengan adanya pandangan mengenai pemahaman-pemahaman gender yang berlaku pada lapisan sosial. Menurutnya, gender hanya akan menjadikan individu hidup dalam batasan-batasan yang bias. Dikarenakan, gender bukanlah cerminan murni dari pada tiap jenis kelamin. Melainkan, suatu konstruksi sosial mengenai peran dan identitas yang terhadap tiap jenis kelamin. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk memahami bagaimana konsep androgyny diterapkan dan direpresentasikan, terutama pada genre musik Glam Rock melalui videoclip berjudul Your Mama Don’t Dance oleh Poison. Dipilihnya genre musik Glam Rock sebagai ranah penelitian dikarenakan genre musik tersebut merupakan gambaran konkret mengenai eksistensi androgyny dalam popular culture. Guna memahami bagaimana konsep androgyny diterapkan dan direpresentasikan secara mendalam, penelitian ini bersifat kualitatif deskriptif dengan paradigma konsturktivis dan metodelogi yang digunakan adalah semiotika karya Roland Barthes. Alasan digunakannya semiotika sebagai metode analisis adalah metodelogi semiotika membantu menghasilkan pemahaman yang bersifat kontekstual terhadap tanda-tanda visual terkait objek penelitian. Hasil dari penelitian ini adalah androgyny dalam musik Glam Rock diposisikan sebagai upaya kesetaraan gender dengan menampilkan karakteristik feminin dan maskulin pada waktu yang bersamaan melalui tanda-tanda visual. Tanda-tanda visual tersebut meliputi busana setiap personel yang mencakup model dan warna, tarian, gerakan dan bentuk tubuh.
English Abstract
Theoretically, androgyny is an attempt to remove the normative linkage between sex and gender by combining masculine and feminine characteristics. The concept of androgyny begins with a view of gender understandings prevailing in the society. Androgyny perceive, gender will only make individuals live within biased boundaries. Because gender is not a pure reflection of each sex. Rather, a social construction of the role and identity of each sex. This study aims to understand how the concept of androgyny is applied and represented, especially in the genre of Glam Rock music in the music video titled Your Mama Do Not Dance by Poison. The selection of Glam Rock music as the field of research because these music genre is a concrete depiction of the existence of androgyny in popular culture. In order to understand how the concept of androgyny is applied and represented, type of this research is qualitative descriptive with the constructivist paradigm and the methodology used is semiotics by Roland Barthes. The reasons for the uses of semiotics as a method of analysis is to helps generate a contextual understanding of the visual clues that associated with the object of research. The results of this study is, Glam Rock music positioned androgyny as an effort of gender equality by displaying feminine and masculine characteristics at the same time through visual clues. These visual clues includes garments models and colors, dances, movements and body shapes.
