Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk melihat bagaimana aktifitas komunikasi yang terjadi pada upacara Barong Ider Bumi sebelum dan sesudah masuk dalam agenda Banyuwangi Festival. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian kualitatif dengan etnografi komunikasi dan teori interaksionisme simbolik sebagai pisau analisis. Metode pengumpulan data yang digunakan adalah wawancara semi terstuktur, dokumentasi dan observasi non partisipan. Hasil data yang diperoleh dari metode pengumpulan data kemudian dianalisis menggunakan teknik analisis data Miles and Huberman. Hasil dari penelitian ini adalah situasi komunikasi yang terjadi terbagi menjadi tiga fase, yaitu sebelum dan sesudah Desa Kemiren terkena wabah misterius dan sesudah Barong Ider Bumi masuk dalam agenda Banyuwangi Festival. Untuk Peristiwa Komunikasi terdiri dari tipe peristiwa doa yang didoakan oleh para tetua adat di Desa Kemiren. Untuk topik komunikasinya adalah sarana penolak bala dan perlindungan untuk desa Kemiren. Tujuan dan Fungsi dari Upacara ini adalah sebagai sarana hiburan, sarana penolak bala dan juga sarana untuk mempromosikan pariwisata Banyuwangi. Untuk setting upacara Barong Ider Bumi ini dilakukan di Desa Kemiren, sementara partisipannya terdiri dari seluruh masyarakat Desa Kemiren, perwakilan Pemerintah Kabupaten Banyuwangi, dan para wisatawan. Kaidah interaksinya terjadi pada upacara ini adalah penghormatan terhadap Mbah Buyut Cili dan juga bagaiman persiapan acara ini dengan sebaik-baiknya. Nilai-nilai dari upacara ini terdiri dari nilai kebersamaan, nilai penghargaan terhadap leluhur. Tindak Komunikasi pada upacara ini lebih banyak didominasi oleh tindakan non verbal.

English Abstract

The purpose of this study to see how the communication activities that occur at the Barong Ider Bumi ceremony before and after entering the Banyuwangi Festival agenda. This research is a qualitative research with communication ethnography and symbolic interactionism theory as tools of analysis. Data collection methods used are semi-structured interviews, documentation and non-participant observation. The results of the data obtained from the data collection method were then analyzed using Miles and Hbberman data analysis techniques. The result of this research is communication situation which happened to be divided into three phases, that is before Kemiren village hit by mysterious plague, after Kemiren Village hit by mysterious plague and after Barong Ider Bumi entered in agenda of Banyuwangi Festival. For events the communication that took place in the Barong Ider Bumi ceremony consisted of a type of prayer event prayed for by the elders in Kemiren Village. For the topic of communication, it is a means of repelling negative aura and for the sake of protection for the village of Kemiren. The purpose and function of the Barong Ider Bumi Ceremony is as an entertainment facility, repelling negative aura and for promoting Banyuwangi tourism. For the setting of Barong Ider Bumi ceremony is conducted in Kemiren Village, while the participants of this ceremony are all Kemiren villagers, representatives of the Government of Banyuwangi and the tourists. The rules of interaction that occur at this ceremony are respect for Mbah Great-grandfather Chile and also how to prepare this event as well as possible. The values of this ceremony consist of values of togetherness, value of appreciation for ancestors. Communication act at this ceremony is more dominated by non verbal actions.
