Abstract

Secara umum pendekatan sejarah komunikasi belum banyak yang mengkaji atau belum begitu kuat perkembangannya di Indonesia. Pendekatan sejarah komunikasi bertujuan untuk memahami konteks sejarah ilmu komunikasi di Indonesia. Salah satu cara untuk mengetahui perkembangan kajian komunikasi Indonesia adalah melalui studi pemikiran. Penelitian ini meneliti studi pemikiran Idi Subandy Ibrahim untuk melihat bagaimana pemikiran Idi Subandy Ibrahim dalam mengembangkan kajian komunikasi Indonesia. Dengan menggunakan metode hermeneutika milik Gadamer dan menganalisis tulisan-tulisanya mulai tahun 1995 sampai 2017 yang memiliki fokus penelitian; Bagaimana proses perjalanan dan pemikiran Idi Subandy Ibrahim yang tidak bisa dilepaskan dari kondisi sosial yang mempengaruhi pemikirannya pada saat itu. Pendekatan yang digunakan antara lain pendekatan sejarah dalam kajian komunikasi, sociology of knowledge dan pendekatan cultural studies. Ditemukan bahwa Idi Subandy Ibrahim dapat dikatakan sebagai seseorang yang telah memberikan kontribusinya terhadap perkembangan kajian komunikasi Indonesia selain melalui tulisannya tetapi juga perannya dalam beberapa lembaga atau forum seperti ISKI, FSK, LSPP, FDIB dan lain sebagainya. Selain itu juga perannya sebagai dosen tidak tetap di beberapa Universitas perguruan tinggi Indonesia. Kemudian, yang mempengaruhi pemikirannya antara lain (1). Pendidikan, (2). Lingkungan sosial (3). Lingkaran pertemanan dan organisasi, (4). Keluarga. Kemudian, ditemukan bahwa tulisannya tersebut merupakan bentuk kekhawatiran Idi Subandy Ibrahim melihat ruang publik menjadi tempat praktik-praktik komoditas dan komersialisasi sehingga Idi memberikan gagasan alternatif tentang bagaimana jurnalisme harus menerapkan komunikasi empati.

English Abstract

Generally, there is only a few research regarding the history of communication science in Indonesia. It also hasn’t been well developed. The research approach regarding the history of communication is to understand context of the communication science in Indonesia. One of the methods to understand the development of communication science in Indonesia is through the study of thoughts. By analyzing the thought of Idi Subandy Ibrahim, we can research how his contributions helps develop the communication science in Indonesia. The researcher uses the research method of hermeneutika by Gadamer and analyze Idi Subandy Ibrahim’works from the middle year 1990s up 2017. This research is focused on finding a solutuon towards the main problems of this research. How does the experience and the mindset of Idi Subandy Ibrahim affects his perspective during the social condition at the time. This research is using the historical approach, the sociology of knowledge, and cultural studies. His contributions towards the field of communication sciences in Indonesia is through his role in various associations like ISKI, FSK, LSPP, FDIB. He also has a role as a nonpermanet lecture in various universities in Indonesia. The four things that effects his perspectives are (1) Education, (2) Social Enviroment. (3) His circle of friends and organization (4) Family. The result of this research shows that his work is expression towards how the public sphere is turning to a place where commodity and commercialization are heavily practiced. This led him to an ideal regarding contemporary journalism which should apply empathetic communication.
