Abstract
Portal berita online menjadi alternatif pilihan bagi masyarakat untuk mendapatkan informasi didukung fitur interaktivitasnya. Salah satu kasus yang sempat meramaikan berbagai portal berita online adalah eksekusi mati warga negara asing di Indonesia. Kasus ini menimbulkan pro dan kontra sehingga menarik untuk dibahas. BBC.com adalah salah satu portal berita online terbesar dunia yang ikut membahas masalah ini dan dipilih menjadi objek penelitian karena memiliki tingkat kepercayaan dan kedekatan di masyarakat yang baik serta untuk melihat kasus ini dari perspektif asing. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui dan memaknai wacana yang muncul dan ditampilkan BBC.com dalam pemberitaan mengenai kasus eksekusi mati bagi warga negara asing terpidana kasus narkoba dan kaitannya dengan kedaulatan Republik Indonesia. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian kualitatif deskriptif dengan menggunakan metode analisis wacana. Analisis wacana yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah wacana milik Teun A. van Dijk. Penelitian ini berusaha mengungkap bagaimana wacana yang coba ditampilkan BBC.com dengan menggunakan konteks sosial, kognisi sosial serta analisis teks yang dimiliki van Dijk. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukan bahwa BBC.com merepresentasikan kepercayaan atau prasangka dan pengetahuan yang dimilikinya sebagai strategi pembentukan teks peristiwa yang spesifik yang tercermin lewat teks beritanya. BBC.com juga menggunakan portal media online sebagai akses untuk memproduksi dan menyebarkan wacana.
English Abstract
Online news has become an alternative choice for people to get information because of its interactivity features. One of the cases that enliven the various online news portals is the execution of dead foreign nationals in Indonesia. This case raises the pros and cons that makes it so interesting to discuss. BBC.com is one of the world's largest online news portals that took part in discussing this issue and was chosen to be a research object because it has a level of trust and closeness in a good society and to see the case from a foreign perspective. The purpose of this study is to know and interpret the discourse that appears and displayed by BBC.com in the news about the execution case for death for foreign nationals convicted of drug cases and its relation to the sovereignty of the Republic of Indonesia. This research is a descriptive qualitative research using discourse analysis method. Discourse analysis used in this research is the discourse of Teun A. van Dijk. This research tries to reveal how the discourse that BBC tried to show using social context, social cognition and text analysis owned by van Dijk. The results of this study indicate that BBC.com represents the belief or prejudice and knowledge it possesses as a strategy of forming a specific text that is reflected through its news. BBC.com also uses online media portals as access to produce and disseminate discourse.
