Abstract

Penelitian ini membahas tentang bagaimana pola relasi pimpinan pondok pesantren dan santri di Pondok Pesantren X, Desa XX, Kecamatan XXX, Kabupaten Malang. Pada umumnya relasi yang ada di seluruh pondok pesantren hampir sama. Namun, dalam hal ini Pondok Pesantren X merangkap sebagai tempat wisata rohani. Penelitian ini menggunakan teori patron klien dan resistensi dari James C. Scott. Kemudian, untuk metode penelitian menggunakan kualitatif dengan pendekatan studi kasus instrumental. Teknik penentuan informan menggunakan purposive sampling, dengan informan utama (pimpinan pondok dan santri mukim), dan informan tambahan (riyadhoh dan jamaah). Pengambilan data dalam penelitian ini dilakukan dengan menggunakan data primer dan data sekunder. Teknik pengumpulan data menggunakan observasi, wawancara, dan dokumentasi. Setelah memperoleh data, peneliti melakukan analisa data dengan menggunakan perjodohan pola. Dan terakhir, peneliti melakukan keabsahan data menggunakan triangulasi sumber. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa relasi yang terjadi antara pimpinan pondok dan santri di Pondok Pesantren X merupakan relasi patron klien, yang berlangsung sejak tahun 1987 hingga saat ini. Pimpinan pondok dalam hal ini menjadi patron. Hal ini dapat terjadi karena pimpinan pondok memiliki sumberdaya ilmu agama, ekonomi, dan lain-lain. Patron utama dalam relasi ini adalah ketiga menantu laki-laki Bu Nyai X (KH, KS, dan KA). Mereka berperan langsung dalam memimpin Pondok Pesantren X. Sedangkan, Bu Nyai X tidak berperan langsung dalam memimpin Pondok Pesantren X. Kemudian, santri menjadi klien karena santri membutuhkan bantuan atau pertolongan dari pimpinan pondok untuk menyelesaikan permasalahannya. Santri membalas pimpinan pondok dengan cara patuh dan melaksanakan tugas (kerja amal) yang diberikan oleh pimpinan pondok. Kemudian, di dalam relasi patron klien tersebut, terdapat adanya resistensi yang berupa hidden transcript.

English Abstract

This study aims at discussing the patterns of relationship of the chief of Islamic boarding school and their students (santri) at Pondok Pesantren X, Village XX, District XXX, Kab. Malang. Generally, the relationships exist throughout the boarding school are almost the same. However, in this case Pondok Pesantren (Islamic Boarding School) X function doubles as the sites of spiritual sights. This study uses client patron theory and resistance by James C. Scott. Then, for qualitative research methods, the researcher uses an instrumental case study as her approach. She also uses purposive sampling as the technique to determine the informants, with three kinds of key informants (the founder of Islamic Boarding School and also santri mukim; the students living in boarding school), and additional informants (riyadhoh and jamaah). The data collected in this study is from primary and secondary data. In proposing the data, the researcher uses observation, interviews, and documentation. After obtaining the data, the researcher performs data analysis by using pattern matchmaking. Finally, the researcher performs the validity of the data by using source triangulation. The result of the research had shown that the relationship between the head of boarding school and their students in Pondok Pesantren (Islamic Boarding school) X is the client patron relationship, which has been practicing from 1987 until present. The Head of Islamic Boarding School in this case becomes a patron. This happens because the Chief of Islamic Boarding School positions as the resources of religious knowledge, economics, and others. The main patron in this case is those three sons-in-law of Bu Nyai (a respected elder female teacher; who are KH, KS, and KA). On one hand, Bu Nyai is not directly involved in leading the Islamic Boarding School. Meanwhile, students (santri) positioned as the clients because they need aiding and guidance from the leader of the Islamic Boarding School to solve their problems. Santri shows their devotion to their institution by being obedient and performing the tasks (charitable works) that are given by the leader of the Islamic Boarding School. Lastly, in the client's patron relationship, the researcher figured out the resistance in the form of hidden transcript.
