Abstract
Departemen Ilmu Komunikasi FISIP USU merupakan salah satu jurusan ilmu komunikasi di Sumatera Utara yang telah berdiri selama 35 tahun. Sempat terjadi perubahan nama dari Ilmu Komunikasi menjadi Departemen Ilmu Komunikasi. Departemen ini memiliki tiga prodi yaitu Jurnalistik, Public Relations, dan Periklanan. Selain pendidikan S1, Departemen ini juga memiliki pendidikan magister yang berdiri sejak tahun 2011. Penelitian ini bersifat kualitatif eksploratif dengan metode studi kasus. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk melihat jejak kajian ilmu komunikasi di Departemen Ilmu Komunikasi FISIP USU. Sumber data yang digunakan adalah karya-karya yang dihasilkan oleh mahasiswa maupun dosen serta dokumen kerjasama yang dilakukan oleh Departemen Ilmu Komunikasi FISIP USU dan wawancara yang digunakan sebagai data pendukung. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa Departemen Ilmu Komunikasi FISIP USU mengalami beberapa fase perkembangan kajian. Kajian mengenai Komunikasi
English Abstract
Department of Communication Science FISIP USU is one of communication science majors In Sumatera which has been established for 35 years. There has been a change of name from the Science of Communication to the Department of Communication Science. The department has three study programs: Journalism, Public Relations, and Advertising. In addition to undergraduate program, this department also has a graduate program that was established since 2011. This research is qualitative explorative with case study method. This study aims to look at the traces of communication science studies in the Department of Communication Science FISIP USU. Sources of data used are works produced by students and lecturers and cooperation documents conducted by the Department of Communication Science FISIP USU and interviews used as supporting data. The results of this study indicate that the Department of Communication Science FISIP USU experiencing several phases of the development of the study. The study of Mass Communication was the most studied compared to other studies.
