Abstract
Film sebagai media massa memiliki kekuatan dalam mengkonstruk realitas yang ada, serta dapat menampilkan gambaran masyarakat ketika film itu dibuat. Meskipun film membawa ideologi pembuatnya, film tetap mengandung gambaran ulang fenomena yang ada di masyarakat. Gambaran yang ditampilkan film, dapat mempengaruhi definisi masyarakat mengenai realitas sosial zamannya. Osaka Elegy merupakan salah satu film klasik Jepang yang bercerita tentang kehidupan perempuan dalam budaya patriarki. Hal penting dalam film ini adalah bagaimana perempuan dalam masyarakat patriarki pada era awal hadirnya perempuan dalam film coba direpresentasikan. Tujuan utama dari penelitian ini adalah untuk melihat bagaimana perempuan direpresentasikan dalam film ini dalam konteks masyarakat patriarki. Metodologi penelitian ini adalah analisis tekstual. Data-data yang didapat diantaranya dari shot-shot film tersebut dianalisis dengan menggunakan teknik analisis tekstual Alan Mckee. Konsep patriarki dan subordinasi perempuan serta teori komunikasi seperti teori representasi dan sinematografi digunakan sebagai alat bedah analisis penelitian ini, guna mengetahui representasi perempuan dalam budaya patriarki yang ada dalam film. Penelitian ini menyimpulkan bahwa sutradara Kenji Mizoguchi merepresentasikan perempuan dalam filmnya sebagai yang subordinat, yang lebih rendah dibanding laki-laki. Subordinasi perempuan dalam film ini tampil dalam bentuk-bentuk pengendalian kehidupan perempuan oleh laki-laki. Laki-laki dapat mengkontrol berbagai aspek kehidupan perempuan dan perempuan mematuhinya.
English Abstract
As the mass media, film has the power to construct the existing reality, and could also shown the social situation of the peoples that was portraited on the time it was made. Though film is an ideological mount for the filmmaker, film still comprise the the reconstruction of a phenomenon that was happen in the society. The situation that being pictured in a film could influence people's perspective on the existing social reality that being portraited in the film. Osaka Elegy is one of the Japanese classic that told the story of a woman within a patriarchal society and cultures. The important thing in this film is the potrayal and representation of woman in a patriarchal society that existed in a late silent era and early spoken era. The purpose of this research is to see the potrayal of woman and it's representation in a film within a context that is patriarchy society. The methodology of this research is textual analysis. Research data that has been collected among others is the shots that was used in the film, and then analysing it using Alan Mckee's textual analysis. Patriarchy concept and woman subordination and also communication theory likes representation and cinematography was used as dissection tool on this research, for the purpose of understanding the woman representation within the patriarchy culture that exist in a film. This research found that Kenji Mizoguchi as the director represent the woman in his film as the subordinate, that is woman in the lower social caste than men. Woman subordination in this film manifest in the form of control by men on the many aspect of the woman lives. The woman being obedience is the perfect form of control.
