Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menjelaskan strategi yang digunakan China untuk memproyeksikan kekuatannya di wilayah Afrika Timur. Penelitian ini bersifat deskriptif, menjelaskan strategi berupa soft military power projection dan hard military power projection yang China gunakan. Data yang penulis gunakan berupa data sekunder yang diperoleh dari studi kepustakaan. Pada hasil penelitian, penulis menggunakan konsep military power projection dengan di dalamnya terdiri dari soft military power projection : securing sea lanes of communication, non-combatant evacuation operations, humanitarian response, dan peacekeeping operation ; dan hard military power projection yang terdiri dari: showing the flag, compellence/deterrence, punishment, armed intervention, dan conquest. Melalui strategi military power projection tersebut dapat menjelaskan studi kasus yang akan penulis teliti yaitu proyeksi kekuatan China di wilayah Afrika Timur pada tahun 2008 – 2018. Mengingat adanya ancaman terhadap kepentingan dan keamanan China yang berada di Afrika, maka keputusan China untuk menjalankan strateginya untuk melawan ancaman terhadap kepentingan dan keamanannya di wilayah tersebut.

English Abstract

This reasearch aims to describe the strategy which China used to project their power in East Africa Region. The reaserch is descriptive, explaining the China’s strategy in two form of military power projection, soft military power projection and hard military power projection. The data that used by researcher is secondary data that acqired from literature study. As the result of the research, the reasearcher use the concept of military power projection which are soft military power projection : securing sea lanes of communication, non-combatant evacuation operations, humanitarian response, dan peacekeeping operation ; and hard military power projection: showing the flag, compellence/deterrence, punishment, armed intervention, and conquest. Through this type of power projection, the reasearcher could explain the case study of China’s power projection in East Africa Region in 2008 - 2018. Considering the threat towards China’s interest and security in the region, so the China uses the military power projection as a strategy.
