Abstract
Sudah banyak diyakini bahwa entrepreneur merupakan salah satu tonggak kokohnya pertumbuhan dan perkembangan ekonomi suatu negara, karena kemampuannya dalam menciptakan lapangan kerja. Namun, pertumbuhan jumlah entrepreneur di Indonesia masih sangat sedikit. Apalagi bila melihat jumlah lulusan sarjana lulusan perguruan tinggi, masih sangat sedikit sarjana yang memilih karier sebagai entrepreneur dan lebih banyak dari mereka yang memilih karier sebagai karyawan ( non-entrepreneur ). Penelitian ini diharapkan dapat memberikan jawaban terhadap persoalan tersebut dengan mengkaji secara mendalam dari 5 karakter entrepreneurial yang banyak dibahas oleh para ahli, yaitu: pengambilan risiko, bersaing agresif, proaktif, inovatif, dan kemandirian. Pengambilan sampel ditujukan pada alumni Jurusan Teknik Industri – Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) Surabaya. Dari 5 variabel utama penelitian dimunculkan 58 variabel manifes. Jumlah kuesioner yang sah diolah lanjut sebanyak 76 eksemplar. Data diolah dengan analisis deskriptif, analisis tabulasi silang, analisis faktor konfirmatori, analisis diskriminan, dan analisis regresi logistik yang dirangkum akhir dengan uji terhadap 5 hipotesis. Interrelasi kelima variabel utama penelitian juga diperoleh dari analisis faktor konfirmatori dengan melibatkan 58 variabel manifes dimaksud. Hasil yang diperoleh tentang uji hipotesis terbukti bahwa hanya 3 aspek yang berpengaruh secara signifikan terhadap pilihan karier entrepreneur , yaitu: pengambilan risiko, bersaing agresif, dan proaktif. Dari analisis diskriminan dan regresi logistik terbukti bahwa ketiga variabel tersebut berpengaruh besar terhadap pilihan karier sebagai entrepreneur . Aspek inovatif dan kemandirian dibutuhkan sama baiknya dalam bekerja, apakah dia memilih karier sebagai entrepreneur atau non-entrepreneur . Selanjutnya dibahas tentang rekomendasi untuk proses pembelajaran mata kuliah Pengantar Technopreneurship di lingkungan Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember Surabaya atau dapat juga digunakan untuk perguruan tinggi lainnya.
English Abstract
It is commonly believed that entrepreneurs are one of the main pillars of nation economic growth or development due to their ability to create jobs. However, the growth of entrepreneurs in Indonesia is considered very low. Looking at the number of university graduates, the percentage of graduate who choose to be an entrepreneur is very low, being an employee (non-entrepreneur) is still the most preferable career path by majority of university graduates. This research aims to analyze the entrepreneurial characteristics that influence graduates to choose an entrepreneur. Based on previous research, five factors were identified, i.e: risk taking, aggressiveness, proactiveness, innovativeness, and autonomy. Data for this study were collected from 76 respondents from alumnae of Industrial Engineering Department – ITS Surabaya. There are 58 observed variables were identified to represent the above five factors. Data were then analyzed using descriptive analysis, cross tabulation, confirmatory factor analysis, discriminant analysis, and logistic regression to test the five identified hypotheses. Interrelationship among the five main factors was analyzed using confirmatory factor analysis by involving the 58 observed variables. Hypotheses tests show that only three factors significantly influenced the choice of entrepreneur as career path, i.e. risk taking, aggressiveness, and proactiveness. Both discriminant analysis and logistic regression showed that those three factors are highly related to choice of being entrepreneur. While the other two factors – innovativeness and autonomy – were found to be basic characteristics required for both an entrepreneur and non-entrepreneur (professional managers or intrapreneurs). The recommendations for teaching and learning strategies of technopreneurship subject in Institute of Technology Sepuluh Nopember Surabaya and other university were also discussed.
