Abstract

Gereja di Bali yang berkembang pada awal abad ke-19 yang dibawa oleh para misionaris tersebut sangat dipengaruhi oleh budaya Eropa. Menurut Konsili Vatikan II, bangunan gereja sebaiknya menggunakan pola arsitektur lokal serta harus dapat menyelaraskan diri dengan lingkungannya. Hal tersebut menyebabkan perubahan pada arsitektur dan interior gereja yang dimana hal tersebut juga terjadi pada bangunan gereja yang terdapat di Bali. Hal tersebut juga berlaku pada gereja Katolik Palasari. Gereja Katolik Palasari merupakan gereja inkulturasi yang bergaya arsitektur Gotik dan arsitektur Bali (Yusa, 2013). Fenomena inkulturasi di Bali terjadi secara besar-besaran pada tahun 1990-2000 (Sukayasa, 2009). Gereja Katolik Palasari merupakan gereja yang dibangun dan diresmikan pada tahun 1958 yang berarti gereja tersebut dibangun sebelum terjadinya fenomena inkulturasi di Bali, yang berarti Gereja Katolik Palasari tersebut dibangun sebelum adanya periode inkulturasi secara besar-besaran di Bali. Penelitian ini merupakan sebuah studi yang meneliti kembali apakah benar inkulturasi tersebut terjadi pada bangunan Gereja Katolik Palasari dengan menggunakan geometri sebagai alatnya. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif dengan pengujian dengan analisis korelasi untuk dapat menemukan benang merah antara konsep arsitektur Bali dan konsep arsitektur Gereja Katolik Gotik pada Gereja Katolik Palasari. Pada hasil dari penelitian ini dijabarkan benang merah antara konsep geometri pada arsitektur Bali dan arsitektur Gereja Katolik Gotik dengan mencari korelasi antar konsep geometri. Hasil dari penelitian ini juga didapatkan seberapa besarkah pengaruh dari masingmasing konsep arsitektur tersebut serta dominasinya pada bangunan Gereja Katolik Palasari. Dari hasil penelitian ini kemudian dapat dilakukannya penelitian dengan tema yang baru yang masih terkait dengan inkulturasi pada bangunan Gereja Katolik Palasari.

English Abstract

Church in Bali which developed in early 19th Century was brought by the missionaries which was heavily influenced by the European culture. According to the Second Vatican Council, church should be built with the local architectural pattern and should be able to harmonize with their environment. This statement led to a change both in the architecture and also interior of the church. This also goes with the church architecture in Bali which combine the Balinese Architecture inside the Church, that also applies in Palasari Catholic Church. Palasari Catholic Church is a well-known inculturation church which combine the Gothic Architecture and Balinese Architecture (Yusa, 2013). The phenomenon of inculturation itself massively occurred in Bali on 1990-2000 (Sukayasa, 2009) mean while Palasari Catholic Church was built in 1985 which means it was built before the period of inculturation phenomenon in Bali. This study examines whether the inculturation occurs in the Palasari Catholic Church or not, by using geometry as its tool. This study uses qualitative descriptive method with testing by using correlation analysis to be able to find the common thread between Balinese Architecture concept and Gothic Church Architectural Concept. In the results of this study, finding the common thread between the geometry concept in Balinese Architecture and Gothic Church Architecture in the Palasari Catholic Church by finding the correlation between those two geometric concept. The result also showing how big is the influence of each architectural concepts and its dominance in the Palasari Catholic Churuch. From the result of this study itself could suggest a new theme in research which is still associated with inculturation in Palasari Catholic Church.
