Yunita, Merry (2013) Kadar Serum Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor (VEGF) dan Pigment Epithelium Derived Factor (PEDF) pada Retinopati Diabetika. Magister thesis, Universitas Brawijaya.

Abstract

English Abstract

Purpose : To find out differences between VEGF serum level according to the severity of diabetic retinopathy (DR) in patients with type 2 DM, to find out differences between PEDF serum level according to the severity of diabetic retinopathy (DR) in patients with type 2 DM, and to know the relationship between VEGF and PEDF serum level with the severity of diabetic retinopathy (DR) in patients with type 2 DM. Methods : This study was observational analytic with cross-sectional approach. Sample age range between 50-70 years. DM type 2 was grouped into Non Diabetic Retinopathy , Non Proliferative Diabetic Retinopathy (NPDR), Proliferative Diabetic Retinopathy (PDR). The total sample was 36 patients (12 patients with non DR, 12 patients with NPDR and 12 patients with PDR). All patients underwent anamnesis, clinical examination and ophthalmology examination. Blood samples was taken from all patients, then serum level of VEGF and PEDF was measured using ELISA method. The serum level of VEGF and PEDF were compared with the severity of DR. Data was analized using ANOVA, Spearman correlation test and Pearson test. Results : Total of 36 samples consists of 18 men and 18 women. Serum level of VEGF in non DR group was significantly different with NPDR and PDR groups (p 0.05), there is a positive correlation between VEGF serum level and the severity of retinopathy (p 0.05). Serum level of PEDF in non DR group was significantly different with NPDR and PDR groups (p 0.05), there is a positive correlation between PEDF serum level and the severity of retinopathy (p 0.05). There is a positive correlation between VEGF and PEDF serum level with the severity of retinopathy (p 0.05). Conclusion : There are increased serum level of VEGF and PEDF correlated with increased the severity of diabetic retinopathy. Increased serum level of VEGF will increased serum level of PEDF in correlation with the severity of diabetic retinopathy.
