Abstract

Keberadaan sedimen di area terumbu karang mempunyai pengaruh negatif. Walaupun perngaruh tersebut secara langsung dan tidak langsung terhadap terumbu karang dimana dapat menghambat pertumbuhan maupun perkembangan terumbu karang pada area tersebut karena disebabkan adanya laju sedimentasi yang bersifat tersuspensi dimana akan menghambat proses fotosintesis bagi zooxanthellae dan apabila terdeposit maka akan terjadi smothering bagi polyp karang Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui kondisi terumbu karang dan kondisi lingkungan habitatnya, menghitung laju sedimentasi pada daerah terumbu karang, dan menganalisis hubungan dan pengaruh laju sedimentasi terhadap terumbu karang di perairan Sub-Distrik Cristo Rei, Distrik Dili, Timor-Leste. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode deskriptif. Pengamatan persentase tutupan terumbu karang digunakan metode line intercept transect, dan untuk mengukur laju sedimentasi digunakan sedimen trap yang dipasang selama 30 hari. Laju sedimentasi yang terperangkap dalam sedimen trap dibawah ke laboratorium untuk dikeringkan dengan oven pada suhu 60o C, selama 24 jam, kemudian ditimbang berat kering dan analisi tekstur sedimen. Analisis yang digunakan adalah analisis statistik, Anova dan PCA. Hasil penelitian diperoleh bahwa persentase tutupan karang hidup pada setiap stasiun penelitian berkisar antara 14,75 - 77,25% dengan rata-rata persentase tutupan karang hidup 45,60%. Berdasarkan katergori penilaian maka persentasi tutupan karang di Sub-Distrik Cristo Rei Distrik Dili adalah tergolong kategori sedang. Laju sedimentasi pada setiap stasiun penelitian berkisar antara 3,30 – 13,60 mg/cm2/hari, dengan nilai rata-rata 7,12 mg/cm2/hari. Tingkat dampak laju sedimentasi terhadap kondisi terumbu karang adalah ringan hingga berat. Hasil analisis Anova menunjukkan laju sedimentasi berpengaruh sangat signifikan terhadap persentase tutupan karang dan berpengaruh signifikan terhadap indeks mortalitas. Tingkat pengaruh laju sedimentasi terhadap persentase tutupan karang sebesar 65,40% dan indeks mortalitas terumbu karang sebesar 53,60%. Analisis Indek Mortalitas (MI) terhadap terumbu karang pada lokasi penelitian menunjukkan tingkat resiko kematian karang dari 0,06 - 0,72% indek mortalitas. Hal ini terlihat jelas pada hasil analisis regresi diketahui bahwa laju sedimentasi sangat berpengaruh negatif terhadap persentase tutupan karang hidup maupun indeks mortalitas terumbu karang. Jika tidak terjadi pengaruh laju sedimentasi maka persentase tutupan karang hidup sebesar 91,78% dan apabila setiap terjadi peningkatan satu satuan laju sedimentasi maka akan menyebabkan indeks mortalitas terumbu karang sebesar 0,079%. Parameter kualitas air sebagai data pendukung, umumnya menunjukkan dalam batas normal untuk pertumbuhan dan perkembangan terumbu karang.

English Abstract

The existence of sediments in the area of coral reefs have a negative impact. Although these effects are directly and indirectly to the coral reefs which can inhibit the growth and development of coral reefs in the area because it is due to the sedimentation rate is suspended which would inhibited the process of photosynthesis of zooxanthellae and if deposited there will be smothering the coral polyp. This study aims to determine the condition and environmental habitat of coral reef, calculate of the sedimentation rate on coral reefs, and analyze the relationship and effect of the sedimentation rate on coral reefs in the waters of Sub-District Cristo Rei District Dili of East Timor. The method in this research is used of the descriptive method. Observations of coral cover, used of the line intercept transect method, and to measure of the sedimentation rate is used of the sediment traps were placed for 30 days. Accumulated of sedimentation rate in the sediment traps will be collected per each trap, taken to the laboratory for dried in an oven at a temperature of 60°C for 24 hours, and then weighed of dry weight with analytical balance and fraction of sediments will be to analyzed. The analysis, used ANOVA (P 0.05), PCA and regression analysis (R2). The results showed that the percentage of live coral cover at each site study of five stations between 14.75 to 77.25 % with an average percentage of live coral cover 45.60%. Based on the assessment category is the percentage of coral cover in the waters of Sub-District Cristo Rei of District Dili is classified as moderate category. The sedimentation rate at each station research with the values between 3.30 to 13.60 mg/cm2/day, and an average value of 7.12 mg/cm2/day. Impacts level of sedimentation rate on coral reef conditions are slight to moderate and moderate to severe. The results of ANOVA analysis showed a very significant effect of the sedimentation rate on percentage of coral cover and a significant effect on mortality index. The level of effect of the sedimentation rate on percentage of coral cover was 65.40% and the mortality index on coral reef was 53.60%. Mortality index (MI) analysis of the condition of coral reef is showing the level of coral mortality risk of 0.06 to 0.72% MI. This is evident in the results of regression analysis found of sedimentation rate is very negative effect on the percentage of live coral cover and mortality index of coral reef. If it does not the effect of the sedimentation rate, the percentage of live coral cover of 91.78 % and if any one unit increased of sedimentation rate will cause coral mortality 0.079% mortality index. Water quality parameters are for data support which generally indicate in the normal value for the development and growth of coral reef.
