Abstract
Ekowisata adalah sub-komponen wisata alam yang menitikberatkan pada proses pengembangan daerah wisata yang berkelanjutan. Pantai Pulau Merah sebagai salah satu daerah wisata yang sedang dikembangkan oleh pemerintah Kabupaten Banyuwangi, memiliki potensi wisata bawah air berupa gugusan terumbu karang yang selain berfungsi sebagai atraksi juga memiliki fungsi edukasi. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui jenis- jenis karang yang terdapat di Pantai Pulau Merah, mengukur ketertarikan wisatawan terhadap terumbu karang sebagai atraksi, mengetahui peran masyarakat dan semua pemangku kepentingan dalam usaha pengembangan pariwisata bahari, serta menyusun strategi pengembangan atraksi terumbu karang dan pengembangan ekowisata di Pantai Pulau Merah. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini antara lain observasi, dokumentasi dan identifikasi jenis-jenis karang; survei angket kepada wisatawan; dan wawancara masyarakat dan pemangku kepentingan pariwisata. Hasil penelitian dianalisa secara deskriptif. Sebelas spesies karang ditemukan di stasiun pengamatan di sekitar lokasi Pantai Pulau Merah. Ketertarikan wisatawan terhadap atraksi ini terbilang tinggi meskipun pemahaman masih rendah, untuk keberlanjutan perlu diimbangi pengadaan sarana dan prasarana yang lebih baik. Persepsi dan pengetahuan masyarakat dan pemangku kepentingan pariwisata terkait konservasi dan preservasi terumbu karang bersifat positif, meskipun dalam pengembangannya terdapat banyak faktor yang saling mempengaruhi dalam kaitannya dengan pengembangan destinasi wisata berbasis ekowisata.
English Abstract
Ecotourism is a sub-component of nature tourism which focussing on developing tourism site to achieve sustainibility in perspective of biological resource. Pulau Merah Beach as one of tourism site that continuously being developed by Banyuwangi Goverment has enormous sub-marine resource as potential tourism attraction in form of coral reef, which have both education and entertainment functions. The purposes of this study are to identify species diversity of corals that inhabiting sea bed of Pulau Merah Beach; to measure tourism appeals of coral reef’s attraction, by using questionaire toward tourists in Pulau Merah Beach; to understand roles of local communities and stakeholders toward conservation and preservation of hard coral habitat and toward development of ecotourism; lastly to design a strategy to promote both of hard coral’s atraction and ecotourism in Pulau Merah Beach. This study are conducted by using some metodhs which are including field observation, documentation, and identification of coral’s species; using questioner survey to measure hard coral attraction appeals for Pulau Merah Beach’s tourists; and interviewing local communities and tourism stakeholders. The result of this research was analyzed descriptively. About 11 coral species was found along Pulau Merah Beach coastline’s sea bed. Tourists’ interest towards hard coral attraction are relatively high, eventhough their understanding of such atraction are relatively low, for sustainibility of this attraction provision of better facilities and infrastructure regarding tourists safety are neccessary. Local community around tourism destination showing positive perception and knowledge regarding coral reef conservation and preservation, although in its development there are wide factors that related and affecting not only coral conservation and preservation process but also the eco-tourism development process of Pulau Merah Beach
