Abstract

Hasil penelitian sebelumnya menunjukkan bahwa esterifikasi biomassa Azolla microphylla dengan asam sitrat meningkatkan kapasitas adsorpsinya terhadap kadmium(II). Tujuan penelitian ini adalah mempelajari pengaruh konsentrasi asam sitrat dan temperatur esterifikasi terhadap adsorpsi kadmium(II) oleh biomassa Azolla microphylla yang diesterifikasi dengan asam sitrat (BA-Sitrat). Esterifikasi biomassa dilakukan dengan cara mensuspensikan 0,5 g biomassa ukuran 120-125 mesh ke dalam larutan asam sitrat konsentrasi 0,4 ; 0,6 ; 0,8 dan 1 M. Suspensi yang terbentuk dikeringkan di dalam oven pada temperatur 60 oC. Selanjutnya suspensi kering dipanaskan pada variasi temperatur 115 ; 120 ; 125 dan 130oC selama 3,5 jam. Karakterisasi biomassa setelah diesterifikasi dilakukan dengan metode analisis volumetri menggunakan larutan NaOH 0,1 M. Percobaan adsorpsi kadmium(II) dilakukan dengan sistem batch. Percobaan dilakukan pada pH 6, waktu kontak 60 menit, serta konsentrasi kadmium(II) 100 mg/L. Konsentrasi kadmium(II) setelah adsorpsi dilakukan menggunakan spektrofotometer serapan atom. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa konsentrasi asam sitrat dan temperatur esterifikasi berpengaruh terhadap tingkat keasaman BA-Sitrat dan kemampuan adsorpsinya terhadap kadmium(II). Semakin tinggi tingkat keasaman adsorben BA-Sitrat semakin tinggi pula kemampuan adsorpsinya terhadap kadmium(II). Tingkat keasaman adsorben BA-Sitrat tertinggi dicapai pada penggunaan konsentrasi asam sitrat 0,6 M dan temperatur esterifikasi 120oC dengan persen adsorpsi kadmium(II) sebesar 45,76%

English Abstract

Results of previous studies showed that the esterification of Azolla microphylla biomass with citric acid increased its adsorption capacity toward cadmium(II). The purpose of this research was to study the effect of citric acid concentration and esterification temperature on adsorption of cadmium(II) by Azolla microphylla biomass esterified with citric acid (BACitrate). Esterification of biomass was done by suspending 0.5 g of biomass of 120-125 mesh into a citric acid solution with concentration of 0.4; 0.6; 0.8 and 1 M. The suspension was dried in an oven at 60 °C. Furthermore, dry suspension was heated at a various temperature of 115; 120; 125 and 130oC for 3.5 hours. Characterization of the biomass after esterification was done by volumetric analysis method using 0.1 M NaOH solution. Adsorption experiments were performed in a batch system. The experiments were performed at pH 6, contact time of 60 minutes, and the concentration of cadmium(II) 100 mg / L. The concentration of cadmium(II) after adsorption were determined using atomic absorption spectrophotometer. The results showed that the concentration of citric acid and esterification temperature affected both the acidity of the BACitrate and its adsorption ability toward cadmium(II). The higher level of acidity BA-Citrate adsorbent, the higher the adsorption ability of the cadmium(II). The highest BA-Citrate adsorbent acidity achieved on the used of citric acid concentration of 0.6 M and a temperature of 120oC that gave a percentage of cadmium(II) of 45.76%
