Abstract
Telah dilakukan reaksi hidrogenasi terhadap furfural dengan menggunakan katalis Cu/γ-Al2O3 pada atmosfer gas H2. Penelitian ini dilakukan dalam beberapa tahap, yaitu preparasi katalis Cu/γ-Al2O3, karakterisasi katalis, dan reaksi hidrogenasi furfural dengan katalis Cu/γ-Al2O3. Katalis dikarakterisasi dengan X-ray Diffraction (XRD), Scanning Electron Microscopy-Energy Dispersive X-Ray (SEM-EDX), dan Atomic Absorption SpectrometryI (AAS), sedangkan produk hasil reaksi hidrogenasi diidentifikasi dengan Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR). Berdasarkan analisis menggunakan XRD dan SEM dapat diketahui bahwa Cu telah terimpregnasi dengan baik pada γ-Al2O3. Analisis AAS menunjukkan persentase Cu yang terimpregnasi sebesar 4,56%. Uji aktivitas katalis dilakukan pada suhu reaksi 150 dan 180 oC pada waktu 1; 2; 2,5 dan 3 jam. Konversi furfural terbaik yaitu pada waktu 2 jam dan suhu 150 oC sebesar 23,37%. Produk reaksi hidrogenasi terbaik yaitu pada waktu 2,5 jam dan suhu 180 oC sebesar 23,32 ppm.
English Abstract
The hydrogenation reaction of furfural has been carried using Cu/γ-Al2O3 catalyst in H2 gas atmosphere. This research was conducted by several steps: preparation of Cu/γ-Al2O3, characterization of catalyst, and hydrogenation reaction of furfural with Cu/γ-Al2O3 catalysts. The catalyst was characterized by X-ray Diffraction (XRD), Scanning Electron Microscopy-Energy Dispersive X-Ray (SEM-EDX), and Atomic Absorption Spectrometry (AAS), while the hydrogenation products were identified by Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR). Based on analysis using XRD and SEM, Cu was impregnated on the γ-Al2O3 surface. AAS analysis gave the percentage of Cu on γ-Al2O3 calculated as 4.56%. The catalyst activity were examined for hydrogenation reaction of furfural at 150 and 180 °C for 1, 2, 2.5 and 3 hours, respectively. The best conversion of furfural was 23.37%, which identified at 150 oC after 2 hours. The best product of hydrogenation reaction was 23.32 ppm, which obtained after 2.5 hours at 180 °C.
