Setiawan, JhonatanHari (2015) The Quality of Silage Made of Varying Proportion of Maize Stover and Calliandra calothyrsus by Addition of Molasses”. Sarjana thesis, Universitas Brawijaya.

Abstract

English Abstract

The combination of maize stover and Calliandra calothyrsus can produce high crude protein of the silage. It made with 5 different proportions, with or without the addition of molasses, was tested in a 5 × 2 Completely Randomized Factorial Design to determine the quality of silage in Malang, East Java. Higher proportion of C. calothyrsus in forage mixtures resulted in higher pH, dry matter, organic matter, crude protein and lower dry matter losses (P<0.01). Addition of molasses resulted lower pH, higher dry matter, lower organic matter, and higher fleigh points (P<0.01). The result found that silage with 25% up to 100% proportion of C. calothyrsus in the forage mixtures with addition of molasses resulted very good fermentation quality based on 84.3 – 86.9 fleigh point and also 1.9 – 28.4% dry matter losses was minimize than other treatment, while normal color and smell, 88.7 – 92.1% of organic matter and 13.8 – 18.0% of crude protein content were found to be similar.
