Abstract
Proses milling merupakan proses permesinan dengan melakukan pemakanan pada bagian benda kerja menggunakan pahat yang berputar. Melalui proses milling, dapat dihasilkan produk dengan permukaan yang datar. Salah satu hal yang mempengaruhi kualitas dari produk hasil proses milling merupakan kekasaran permukaan. Kekasaran permukaan adalah ketidakteraturan konfigurasi suatu permukaan pada suatu objek atau benda, berupa goresan atau gelombang-gelombang kecil. Nilai kekasaran permukaan dipengaruhi oleh munculnya chatter ketika operasi permesinan berlangsung. Karena hal tersebut tidak dapat dihindari, maka guna meminimalisir chatter pada proses permesinan, dilakukan proses milling menggunakan pahat dengan variabel helix angle agar displacement selama permesinan tidak besar pada satu frekuensi. Parameter permesinan yang digunakan adalah spindle speed dengan variasi 600 rpm, 900 rpm, dan 1200 rpm. Depth of cut dan feed rate diatur konstan pada 1 mm dan 50 mm/min. Selanjutnya, pengukuran kekasaran permukaan menggunakan Surface Roughness Tester SJ-301 dari Mitutoyo. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa chatter yang terjadi lebih rendah jika menggunakan pahat dengan variabel helix angle dibandingkan ketika menggunakan pahat normal helix angle dan semakin tinggi nilai spindle speed dapat mengurangi nilai kekasaran permukaan. Nilai kekasaran permukaan tertinggi ditemui pada pahat normal helix angle dengan spindle speed 600 rpm, dan nilai kekasaran permukaan terendah ditemui pada pahat variabel helix angel dengan spindle speed 1200 rpm.
English Abstract
Milling process is a machining process using spinning chisel as a tool to cut materials. Through milling process, we can generate the flat-surface products. One of many things which affect the quality of milling products is surface roughness. Surface roughness is irregularity configuration of surface in products, formed by scratches and waves. Value of surface roughness affected by chatter’s appearance while the milling process begin. Due to this circumstances, which can’t be avoided, researcher use chisel with helix angle variable in order to decrease the chatter, so displacement not increase significantly on one frequency while milling process goes on. Spindle speed as machining parameters is variated to 600 rpm, 900 rpm, and 1200 rpm. Meanwhile, the other machining parameters such as depth of cut and feed rate are set constant on 1 mm and 50 mm/min. Products then measured by Surface Roughness Tester SJ-301 to determine the value of surface roughness. From this research, we can conclude that chatter could be decreased by using chisel with helix angle variable compared to chisel with normal helix angle on milling process. In the order hand, increasing the spindle speed could make the value of surface roughness decreased. The highest surface roughness can be obtained at chisel with normal helix angle and spindle speed variated on 600 rpm whereas the lowest can be obtained at chisel with helix angle variable and spindle speed variated on 1200 rpm.
