Abstract
Latar Belakang : Salah satu masalah dalam kesehatan gigi dan mulut adalah gigi karies. Karies disebabkan oleh plak yang melekat di permukaan gigi. Menyikat gigi adalah cara mekanis untuk mengontrol plak. Terdapat beberapa teknik dalam menyikat gigi. Teknik horizontal mempunyai keunggulan sesuai dengan anatomis oklusal gigi sedangkan teknik roll dapat memijat gusi. Anak tunarungu memiliki keterbatasan dalam mendengar sehingga kurang mengetahui pentingnya kesehatan gigi dan mulut. Tujuan : Untuk mengetahui perbedaan menyikat gigi menggunakan teknik horizontal dengan roll terhadap penurunan akumulasi plak pada anak tunarungu SDLB-B Karya Mulia Surabaya. Metode : Jenis penelitian ini adalah one group pre test and post test design dengan rancangan explanatory study. Sampel dilakukan pemeriksaan akumulasi plak lalu diberikan penyuluhan tentang cara sikat gigi menggunakan teknik horizontal dan teknik roll. Sampel dibagi menjadi dua kelompok, kelompok A diinstruksikan menyikat gigi menggunakan teknik horizontal dan kelompok B menggunakan teknik roll selama satu bulan dan dilakukan pemeriksaan akumulasi plak kembali. Hasil : Berdasarkan hasil Uji Kruskal-Wallis menunjukkan bahwa adanya penurunan yang signifikan terhadap jumlah skor plak sebelum dan sesudah menyikat gigi. Berdasarkan hasil Uji Regresi menunjukkan bahwa terdapat pengaruh yang signifikan (p<0,05) teknik horizontal terhadap indeks plak sebesar -0,570 dan teknik roll terhadap indeks plak sebesar -0,955. Kesimpulan : Menyikat gigi menggunakan teknik roll lebih menurunkan akumulasi plak dari teknik horizontal pada anak tunarungu SDLB-B Karya Mulia Surabaya.
English Abstract
Background : One of the main concern in oral and dental health is dental caries. Dental caries was caused by plaque build up on tooth surface. Brushing the tooth has been the mechanical solution to control plaque build up. There are many ways to brush the teeth. Horizontal technique is beneficiary because it fits better to the occlusal surface of tooth, meanwhile the roll technique is chosen because it massage the gums. Children with impaired hearing have less capability to understand oral and dental health due to their difficulties in hearing. Purpose : determine the difference of horizontal technique and roll technique to decrease plaque accumulation on children with impaired hearing in SDLB-B Karya Mulia Surabaya. Method : This experiment is one group pre test and post test design with explanatory study. Sample examined the accumulation of plaque and given counseling on how to brush your teeth using the horizontal technique and roll technique. The samples were divided into two groups, group A was instructed to brushing teeth using horizontal technique and group B using roll technique for a month and examined the accumulation of plaque back. Result : The analysis results using Kruskal-Wallis test showed that there are significant decrease of plaque score before and after brushing the tooth. Regresion test showed that there is significant difference of plaque index between horizontal technique (0,570) and roll technique (-0,955). Conclusion : Brushing teeth using roll techniques is more decrease the accumulation of plaque than the horizontal technique in deaf children students of SDLB-B Karya Mulia Surabaya.
