Abstract
Latar Belakang : Masalah yang sering timbul dalam kesehatan gigi dan mulut adalah karies gigi. Karies disebabkan oleh 4 faktor, salah satunya adalah adanya plak. Upaya yang dapat dilakukan untuk mencegah adanya plak dapat dilakukan upaya mekanik yaitu sikat gigi disertai pasta gigi. Pasta gigi herbal yang umum berada di pasaran adalah dengan kandungan daun sirih. Kandungan minyak atsiri daun sirih mempunyai daya antibakteri karena adanya fenol dan turunannya yang dapat mengubah sifat protein sel bakteri. Tujuan : Untuk mengetahui perbedaan penggunaan antara pasta gigi herbal dan pasta gigi non- herbal terhadap penurunan skor plak pada anak sekolah dasar usia 8 – 12 tahun. Metode : Jenis penelitian true eksperimental design pre and post test control grup design. Sampel dilakukan pemeriksaan skor plak kemudian diberikan penyuluhan tentang cara sikat gigi menggunakan teknik roll. Sampel dibagi menjadi dua kelompok, Kelompok A diinstruksikan menyikat gigi menggunakan pasta gigi non-herbal dan kelompok B menggunakan pasta gigi herbal selama 14 hari dan dilakukan pemeriksaan skor plak kembali. Hasil : Berdasarkan hasil uji statistik T-berpasangan didapatkan hasil perhitungan skor plak untuk pasta gigi herbal memiliki rata-rata nilai penurunan jumlah plak sebesar 20,62 dan pasta gigi non herbal sebesar 16,33, Hasil uji tersebut menunjukkan bahwa terdapat perbedaan yang signifikan (p<0,05) antara kelompok perlakuan pasta gigi herbal dengan pasta gigi non herbal. Nilai rata-rata penurunan akumulasi plak lebih besar pada kelompok pasta gigi herbal. Kesimpulan : Pasta gigi yang mengandung herbal daun sirih lebih menurunkan akumulasi plak gigi dari pada pasta gigi non herbal.
English Abstract
Background : The recurring problem found in dental and oral health is dental caries. Dental caries is mainly caused by 4 factors, one of them is dental plaque. Mechanical brushing with the right technique using toothpaste could prevent plaque accumulation. Choosing the right toothpaste could affect the efficiency of plaque removal inside oral cavity. Toothpaste in the market has various added substance, the most common is betel leaves. Atsiri oil in betel leaves has a composition of fenol and its derivative that could change the protein characteristic of bacteria, thus resulting in an anti-bacterial effect. Aim: To determine the effectiveness of herbal and non-herbal toothpaste on reducing plaque accumulation with the right tooth-brushing method to the students of SDN 2 Dinoyo Malang between the age span of 8-12 year old. Method: True experimental with pre and post test control group design. Sample examined plaque score then given counseling on how to brushing teeth using roll technique. The samples were divided into two groups, Group A was instructed brushing teeth using non-herbal toothpaste and group B using herbal toothpaste for 14 days and examined scores of plaque back. Results: analysis results of T-test showed that in herbal toothpaste the mean reduction of plaque accumulation is 20,62 and in non-herbal toothpaste is 16,33, analysis results of Independent paired T-test showed that there are significant difference between treatment group of herbal toothpaste and non-herbal toothpaste (p<0,05). The mean reduction of plaque accumulation is greater on the group with herbal toothpaste. Conclusion : Toothpaste with herbal substances (betel leaves) reduce more dental plaque than non-herbal toothpaste.
