Abstract
Perubahan warna pada gigi tiruan dapat menimbulkan permasalahan estetika pada pasien. Salah satu penyebab perubahan warna pada basis gigi tiruan akrilik heat cured adalah stain ekstrinsik akibat makanan dan minuman yang dikonsumsi setiap hari. Penghilangan stain ekstrinsik dapat dilakukan dengan proses perendaman. Buah jamblang (Syzigium cumini) mengandung asam elegat dan asam malat yang dapat menghilangkan stain ekstrinsik pada permukaan basis gigi tiruan akrilik heat cured. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah mengetahui efektivitas ekstrak buah jamblang (Syzigium cumini) sebagai pembersih basis gigi tiruan akrilik heat cured terhadap stain ekstrinsik. Tiga puluh enam lempeng basis gigi tiruan akrilik heat cured direndam dalam larutan teh hitam selama 6 hari. Setelah terbentuk stain ekstrinsik, subyek penelitian dibagi menjadi 3 kelompok perlakuan, masing-masing kelompok terdiri dari 6 subyek. Subyek penelitian direndam selama 14 hari menggunakan akuades dan ekstrak buah jamblang. Stain pada subyek penelitian dianalisis sebelum dan setelah perendaman dengan alat spectophotometer optik. Hasil uji One-Way Anova menunjukkan terdapat perbedaan yang signifikan (p<0.05) antara subyek yang direndam air dengan esktrak buah jamblang (Syzigium cumini). Kesimpulan pada penelitian ini ekstrak buah jamblang (Syzigium cumini) berpengaruh dalam menghilangkan stain ekstrinsik pada permukaan basis gigi tiruan akrilik heat cured.
English Abstract
Discoloration of denture caused aesthetic problems of patient. Discoloration of heat cured acrylic denture base resin was caused by extrinsic stain which is resulted from daily foods and beverages. Soaking was a method to remove extrinsic stain. Jamblang fruit (Syzigium cumini) contained ellagic acid and malic acid which could remove extrinsic stain. The aim of study was to determine the effectiveness of Jamblang fruit extract (Syzigium cumini) as extrinsic staining removal on heat cured acrylic denture base resin. Thirty six heat cured acrylic resin plate immersed in black tea solution in 6 days. After the formation of extrinsic stain, heat cured acrylic resin plate were divided into 3 groups with 6 subjects each. Subjects were soaked using aquadest and Jamblang fruit extract for 14 days. Before and after soaking, subjects were analyzed with optic spectophotometer. One-way Anova test results showed a significant difference (p<0.05) between subjects which soaked using aquadest and jamblang fruit extract. It was concluded that Jamblang fruit (Syzigium cumini) extract influence as extrinsic stain remover on the surface of heat cured acrylic denture base resin.
