Abstract
The genus Chrysomya, as a vector of pathogens, causes health hazards to human beings and animals. To kill or control fly population, insecticides are implemented. Insecticides come in both chemical and non-chemical forms. Because of side effects of chemical insecticides, soil or water became polluted and contaminated and eventually causes risks on human health. Therefore, using active substances obtained from natural materials as insecticides has become an alternative to be considered. A research on the potential insecticidal activity of ethanol extract of garlic (Allium sativum Linn.) against flies (Chrysomya sp) by using spraying method has been performed. This research was an experimental laboratory research using three different concentrations of ethanol extract of garlic (10%, 20%, 30%) to kill flies and the number of dead flies were observed in 1st hour, 2nd hour, 3rd hour, 4th hour, 5th hour, 6th hour and 24th hour. The obtained data were analyzed by using Kruskal Wallis test. According to the analysis, different concentrations give different insecticidal effects in every hour. Based on this test, the optimum dose of garlic to be used as an insecticide on Chrysomya sp flies is 30% (p value <0.05) and the effect increases as the time increases. The optimum exposure time for spray method in this research is 24 hours. From this research, we can conclude that garlic does have potential insecticidal effect on flies (Chrysomya sp).
