Abstract

Jamur Candida albicans dikenal banyak menimbulkan penyakit pada manusia. Sekitar 85-90% infeksi kandidiasis vulvovaginitis disebabkan oleh Candida albicans. Beberapa terapi yang digunakan untuk mengatasi kandidiasis memiliki efek samping yang mengganggu. Oleh karena itu, dibutuhkan penelitian lebih lanjut yang berasal dari bahan alam yang memiliki kemampuan antifungi yang relatif lebih aman, efektif, dan terjangkau. Rimpang jahe gajah (Zingiber officinale var. Roscoe) memiliki zat aktif sebagai antifungi seperti flavonoid, alkaloid, tanin, terpenoid, saponin, dan kuinon. Selain itu, rimpang jahe gajah (Zingiber officinale var. Roscoe) bisa didapatkan dengan mudah karena tersebar hampir di seluruh wilayah Indonesia. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk membuktikan efek antifungi ekstrak etanol rimpang jahe gajah (Zingiber officinale var. Roscoe) terhadap Candida albicans secara in vitro. Sampel diperoleh dari isolat Candida albicans di Laboratorium Mikrobiologi FKUB. Konsentrasi ekstrak yang dipakai yaitu 12,5%, 15%, 17,5%, 20%, 22,5%, 25%, 27,5%, dan kontrol jamur (0%). Metode yang digunakan adalah metode dilusi tabung. Hasil statistik One-Way ANOVA menunjukkan terdapat perbedaan yang signifikan pada perubahan konsentrasi ekstrak etanol rimpang jahe gajah terhadap jumlah koloni Candida albicans (p<0,05). Berdasarkan penelitian ini, dapat disimpulkan bahwa ekstrak rimpang jahe gajah (Zingiber officinale var. Roscoe) mempunyai efek antifungi terhadap jamur Candida albicans secara in vitro.

English Abstract

Candida albicans fungus known as the most common cause of disease in humans. About 80-90% of infection vulvovaginitis candidiasis caused by Candida albicans. Some therapy for candidiasis have inconvenient side effects. Therefore, it is necessarily needed for research of natural substance that has antifungal effect that relatively safer, more effective, and affordable. Gajah ginger (Zingiber officinale var. Roscoe) rhizome extract contains numerous of antifungal active substance, such as flavonoid, alkaloid, tannins, terpenoids, saponin, and quinone. In addition, gajah ginger (Zingiber officinale var. Roscoe) rhizome can also obtained easily because spread to almost all parts of Indonesia. This study aims to prove the antifungal effect of gajah ginger (Zingiber officinale var. Roscoe) rhizome ethanol extract against Candida albicans in vitro. The sampel is obtained Candida albicans isolate from Microbiology Laboratory of Medical Faculty of Brawijaya University. The extract concentrate used is 12,5%, 15%, 17,5%, 20%, 22,5%, 25%, 27,5%, and control fungi (0%). The method used is tube dilution. The result of One-Way ANOVA statistis shows there is a significant difference in the change of gajah ginger (Zingiber officinale var. Roscoe) rhizome extract concentration to the amount of the Candida albicans colony (p<0,05). Based on this research it can be concluded that the ginger (Zingiber officinale var. Roscoe) rhizome extract has an antifungus effect against Candida albicans by in vitro.
