Amila, Ruri Habibatul (2015) Efek Ekstrak Etanol Daun Ketapang (Terminalia Catappa) Sebagai Antibakteri Terhadap Staphylococcus Aureus Isolat 100-Sv Secara In Vitro. Sarjana thesis, Universitas Brawijaya.
Abstract
English Abstract
Staphylococcus aureus is a Gram-positive bacteria which often causes perineal wound infection and caesarean section wound infection on puerperal women. Nowadays, the existing antibacterial therapy has a high resistance against Staphylococcus aureus. Tropical almond leaves (Terminalia catappa) has active essence inside such as alkaloids, saponins, flavonoids, tannins, and quinones which are assumed the antibacterial activity takes place against Staphylococcus aureus. The aim of this study is to determine the effect of the ethanol extract of tropical almond leaves as an antibacterial against Staphylococcus aureus in vitro. This study is a laboratory experimental study using well diffusion method to determine the inhibition zone. Staphylococcus aureus samples derived from vaginal swab. Moreover, the concentration extracts used in this study are 60%, 50%, 40%, 30%, and 20% which results in inhibition zone respectively is 20,67 mm, 19,29 mm, 18,23 mm, 16,79 mm, and 15,26 mm. The result of One Way ANOVA test shows that there is a difference in the growth of Staphylococcus aureus significantly after giving the ethanol extract of tropical almond leaves (p = 0.000). The Pearson correlation test also shows that there is a significant relation between ethanol extract of tropical almond leaves with inhibition zone (p = 0.000) and the higher concentration of the extract make the greater of inhibition zone (r = 0,998). All in all, it can be concluded that the ethanol extract of tropical almond leaves has an effect as an antibacterial against Staphylococcus aureus.
