Abstract

Karies merupakan suatu penyakit pada jaringan keras gigi, yaitu email, dentin dan sementum yang disebabkan aktivitas mikroorganisme yang ada dalam suatu karbohidrat yang diragikan. Beberapa mikroorganisme yang dapat menyebabkan lesi karies telah ditemukan, salah satunya yang paling dominan adalah Streptococcus mutans. Kulit buah apel (Malus domestica) mengandung zat aktif yang dapat berfungsi sebagai antibakteri berupa tanin, flavonoid, peptin dan boron. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui efektivitas antibakteri ekstrak kulit buah apel (Malus domestica) varietas rome beauty terhadap Streptococcus mutans secara in vitro. Penelitian ini merupakan eksperimental laboratorik dengan metode difusi agar sumuran untuk mendapatkan zona hambat pada konsentrasi 25%, 30%, 35%, 40%, 45%, dan 50%. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa ekstrak kulit buah apel pada konsentrasi 25% mampu menghambat pertumbuhan Streptococcus mutans dengan rata-rata diameter zona hambat sebesar 9,425 mm. Analisis data menggunakan uji One-Way ANOVA menunjukkan terdapat pengaruh signifikan dari pemberian berbagai konsentrasi ekstrak kulit buah apel terhadap zona hambat bakteri Streptococcus mutans (p < 0,05). Uji Korelasi Pearson menunjukkan adanya hubungan yang kuat dan berbanding lurus antara perlakuan konsentrasi kulit buah apel (Malus domestica) dengan zona hambat Streptococcus mutans (r=0,098). Dari peneletian ini didapat kesimpulan bahwa ekstrak etanol kulit buah apel (Malus domestica) varietas rome beauty efektif sebagai antibakteri Streptococcus mutans secara in vitro.

English Abstract

Caries as a disease which affect hard structure of the teeth, called email, dentin and sementum is caused by microorganism activities that included in a carbohydrate which already have ferment. Several microorganisms that have cause lesion caries have been found, one of the most dominant is Streptococcus mutans. Apple skin (Malus domestica) contained an active substances that have function is antibacterial such as tannin, flavonoid, pectin, and boron. The target of the research is to determine the effect of apple skin (Malus domestica) variety of rome beauty against Streptococcus muntans in vitro. This research is laboratory experiment use diffusion method, in order to make holes to get resistor zone is 25%, 30%, 35%, 40%, 45%, and 50%. The result of the research indicated that apple skin extract at concentration 25% afford to inhibit the growth Streptococcus mutans with average inhibition zone diameter are 9,425 mm. The data analysis used One-Way ANOVA, it is demonstrate that there are significant effect from applied concentration of apple skin extract against inhibition zone Streptococcus mutans bacterial (p < 0,05). Pearson correlation test exhibit that there are strong relation and directly proportional to the concentration of apple skin extract with inhibition zone of Streptococcus mutans (r=0,098). In this research be obtained the conclusion that etanol extract apple skin (Malus domestica) varieties rome beauty can be effective as antibacterial Streptococcus mutans by in vitro.
