Sarjana thesis, Universitas Brawijaya.
Abstract
English Abstract
The definition of asthma according to GINA is a chronic inflammatory airway disorders accompanied by the role of various cells, in particular mast cells, eosinophil and T lymphocytes inflammation causes recurrent wheezing, shortness of breath, chest tightness, and coughing, particularly at night or early morning. The prevalence of asthma increased in most countries, especially among children. Allergy is one of risk factor for asthma. It has not been many researches for correlation between asthma degree of disease and risk factors of asthma particularly in childhood asthma. The purpose of this study is to determine the correlation between allergen sensitization with the disease degree of asthma in childhood asthma. This study is a cross-sectional observational study design with correlative analysis. The subjects are children with asthma in Respirology and Allergy Immunology Unit in Dr. Saiful Anwar Hospital period December 2011 to December 2014. Calculating of sample size is obtained 85 samples. It has been determined for disease degree of asthma based on PNAA and SPT for confirmation to allergens sensitization such as aeroallergens and food allergens. Statistical analysis is by using Spearman. The results is obtained 171 children with asthma consisted of 89 (52.04%) children with infrequent episodic asthma, 77 (45.03%) children with frequent episodic asthma, and 5 (2.92%) children with persistent asthma. Negative allergen sensitization 8 (4.7%), mono sensitized to allergens 40 (23.4%), and multiple allergen sensitized 123 (71.9%). Probability value (p = 0.029) and correlation coefficient (r = 0.243).So it can be concluded that there is a significant correlation between allergen sensitization with asthma degree of disease in childhood asthma but has a weak correlation in strength of correlation.
