Abstract
Menulis adalah salah satu ketrampilan yang cukup berbeda dengan ketrampilan yang lain di bahasa Inggris karena menulis ialah cara berkomunikasi dengan yang lain melalui tulisan. Di penelitian ini hanya focus dalam menulis teks naratif yang mana siswa tidak hanya membuat cerita menarik yang membutuhkan ide kreatif untuk menghibur pembaca tapi juga mereka harus memperhatikan mekanik penulisan. Peneliti menemukan beberapa masalah di kelas XI IPA 4 di MAN 2 Kota Kediri. Siswa memiliki kesulitan dalam mengembangkan kata menjadi kalimat dan kalimat menjadi sebuah teks narratif yang baik. Berkenaan dengan itu, peneliti menggunakan video dengan petunjuk sebagai media untuk meningkatkan nilai siswa dalam menulis teks naratif. Dengan harapan media ini dapat membuat siswa lebih mudah dalam menulis teks naratif. Penelitian ini menggunakan desain Penelitian Tindakan Kelas (PTK) yang diadopsi dari Kemmis dan McTaggart (1988) untuk mengatasi masalah yang disebutkan. Penelitian dilakukan dalam satu siklus yang terdiri dari lima pertemuan termasuk pre-test dan post-test. Siklus memiliki empat langkah yaitu perencanaan, pelaksanaan, observasi dan refleksi. Untuk mengumpulkan dan menganalisis data peneliti menggunakan wawancara, observasi, catatan lapangan dan tes. Penelitian ini akan berhasil jika total nilai rata-rata siswa mencapai 75 (adalah nilai prestasi terendah dalam SKM di MAN 2 Kota Kediri) Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa video dengan kata petunjuk dapat meningkatkan nilai siswa dalam menulis teks naratif. Peniliti menggunakan rumus yang sama untuk mengukur nilai rata-rata siswa. Yaitu, dengan membagi total nilai dengan total siswa. Nilai rata-rata siswa dites awal adalah 61,57. Sementara dites akhir nilai rata-rata siswa adalah 84. Ini berarti bahwa siswa berhasil mencapai nilai minimal. Media ini sangat membantu siswa dalam menulis teks naratif. Peneliti menyarankan kepada guru untuk menggunakan media yang sama dalam pembelajaran menulis. Untuk peneliti selanjutnya mereka dapat menggunakan media yang berbeda, ketrampilan yang berbeda, jenis teks yang berbeda tergantung masalah pada siswa.
English Abstract
Writing skill is quite different from other skills in English because writing is how to communicate with others in written text. This study only focused on writing narrative text in which the students not only make interesting stories which need creative ideas to amuse the readers, but they also pay attention to the mechanics of writing. The researcher found some problems in XI IPA 4 class of MAN 2 Kota Kediri. The students had difficulties when they developed word to sentences, and sentences into a good paragraph of narrative text. Regarding to these problems, the researcher used the video with clue words as media to increase the students’ scores in writing narrative text because this media provides simple sentence as a model for the students to make it easier for them to write narrative text. This research used Collaborative Action Research (CAR) design adopted from Kemmis and McTaggart (1988) to solve the problems mentioned before. This research was conducted in one cycle consisted of five meetings including pre-test and post-test. The cycle had four steps, they were: planning, acting, observing and reflecting. To collect and analyze the data, the researcher used the information from the interview, observation, field notes and writing test. This research is considered successful when the mean of all the students’ score reached 75 (the minimal standard score of SKM in MAN 2 Kota Kediri) The result of this research showed that the video with clue words could improve the students’ writing skill in narrative text. The researcher divided the total score of the students’ test result by the total member of the students to get the mean score. The students’ mean score in the pre-test was 61.57, while in the post-test, the students’ mean score was 84. It means that the students succeed in passing the minimal score. The media was helpful for the students to write narrative text. The researcher suggested the teacher to use the same media in teaching writing. For further researcher, they can apply different media, different skill, or different genre of text depending on the students’ problem.
