Abstract

Daun belimbing wuluh (Averrhoa bilimbi Linn.) mengandung zat aktif yang dapat berfungsi sebagai antibakteri berupa tanin, flavonoid dan triterpenoid. Staphylococcus aureus merupakan salah satu bakteri yang berkaitan dengan kedokteran gigi yang dapat menyebabkan abses, infeksi luka dan infeksi invasif ke mukosa. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui efek antibakteri ekstrak daun belimbing wuluh (Averrhoa bilimbi Linn.) terhadap Staphylococcus aureus secara in vitro. Penelitian ini merupakan eksperimental laboratorik dengan metode difusi agar sumuran untuk mendapatkan zona hambat. Konsentrasi ekstrak daun belimbing wuluh yang digunakan adalah 6,25%, 12,5%, 25%, 50%, dan 100%. Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa ekstrak daun belimbing wuluh pada konsentrasi 12,5% mampu menghambat pertumbuhan Staphylococcus aureus dengan rata - rata diameter zona hambat sebesar 7,85 mm, sedangkan pada konsentrasi 6,25% tidak terdapat zona hambat. Analisis data menggunakan uji One - Way ANOVA menunjukkan terdapat pengaruh signifikan dari pemberian berbagai konsentrasi ekstrak daun belimbing wuluh terhadap zona hambat bakteri Staphylococcus aureus (p<0,05). Uji Korelasi Pearson menunjukkan adanya hubungan yang kuat dan berbanding lurus antara perlakukan konsentrasi daun belimbing wuluh (Averrhoa bilimbi Linn.) dengan zona hambat Staphylococcus aureus (r=0,735). Berdasarkan penelitian ini, dapat disimpulkan bahwa ekstrak daun belimbing wuluh (Averrhoa bilimbi Linn.) memiliki efek antibakteri terhadap Staphylococcus aureus secara in vitro dengan konsentrasi 12,5%. Semakin tinggi konsentrasi daun belimbing wuluh (Averrhoa bilimbi Linn.) maka semakin besar diameter zona hambat Staphylococcus aureus yang terbentuk.

English Abstract

Starfruit leaves (Averrhoa bilimbi Linn.) contain active substances that is functions as an antibacterial such as tannins, flavonoids and triterpenoids. Staphylococcus aureus is a bacterium related to dentistry that can cause abscesses, wound infections and invasive infections to the mucosa. The purpose of this study is to determine the antibacterial effect of strafruit leaves extract (Averrhoa bilimbi Linn.) against Staphylococcus aureus in vitro. This study is an experimental laboratory using well diffusion method to obtain inhibition zone. Starfruit leaves extract concentrations used are 6,25%, 12,5%, 25%, 50%, and 100%. The results showed that the starfruit leaves extract at 12,5% concentration is able to inhibit the growth of Staphylococcus aureus with an average inhibition zone diameter of 7,85 mm, where as at 6,25% concentration there is no zone of inhibition. Analysis of test data using One - Way ANOVA showed significant effect of administration of various concentrations of starfruit leaves extract against Staphylococcus aureus bacteria inhibition zone (p<0,05). Pearson correlation test showed a strong association between treatment and is directly proportional to the concentration of starfruit leaves (Averrhoa bilimbi Linn.) with Staphylococcus aureus inhibition zone (r=0,735). Based on this study, it can be concluded that the extract of starfruit leaves (Averrhoa bilimbi Linn.) has an antibacterial effect against Staphylococcus aureus in vitro at a concentration of 12,5%. The higher concentration of starfruit leaves (Averrhoa bilimbi Linn.) causing greater diameter of inhibition zone of Staphylococcus aureus.
