Abstract
Streptococcus mutans merupakan bakteri penyebab utama karies gigi. Penggunaan tanaman yang memiliki zat antimikroba dapat menjadi alternatif pencegahan dan pengobatan karies gigi. Kulit buah jeruk nipis (Citrus aurantifolia) merupakan salah satu tanaman berkhasiat yang mempunyai zat antibakteri yang terdiri dari flavonoid, kavikol dan terpenoid. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui pengaruh minyak atsiri kulit jeruk nipis (Citrus aurantifolia) terhadap pertumbuhan bakteri Streptococcus mutans secara in vitro dengan melihat nilai KHM (Kadar Hambat Minimal) dan KBM (Kadar Bunuh Minimal). Penelitian ini menggunakan metode dilusi tabung menggunakan 6 konsentrasi dengan pengulangan 4 kali. Konsentrasi yang digunakan adalah 1,5%; 0,3%; 0,06%; 0,012%; 0,0024% dan 0,00048%. Analisis data yang digunakan adalah one-way ANOVA, korelasi dan regresi dengan derajat kepercayaan 95% (α = 0,05). Hasil uji statistik one-way ANOVA menunjukkan terdapat perbedaan yang signifikan pada perubahan konsentrasi minyak atsiri kulit buah jeruk nipis terhadap pertumbuhan Streptococcus mutans. Semakin tinggi konsentrasi minyak atsiri kulit buah jeruk nipis maka akan semakin rendah pertumbuhan Streptococcus mutans. Kesimpulan dari penelitian ini adalah minyak atsiri kulit jeruk nipis (Citrus aurantifolia) memiliki pengaruh terhadap pertumbuhan Streptococcus mutans secara in vitro. Pada penelitian ini nilai KHM dan KBM didapatkan pada konsentrasi 0,3%.
English Abstract
Streptococcus mutans is the main bacteria that cause dental caries. The use of plants that have antimicrobial agent can be an alternative prevention and treatment of dental caries. Lime peel (Citrus aurantifolia) is one nutritious plants that have antibacterial substance consisting of flavonoids, terpenoids and kavikol. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of lime peel essential oil (Citrus aurantifolia) on the growth of the bacterium Streptococcus mutans in vitro by looking at the value of MIC (Minimum Inhibitory Concentration) and MBC (Kill Minimal Levels). This study uses a tube dilution method using 6 concentrations with 4 times repetition. The concentration used was 1,5%; 0,3%; 0,06%; 0,012%; 0,0024% and 0,00048%. Analysis of the data used is a one-way ANOVA, correlation and regression with 95% confidence level (α = 0.05). Statistical test results of one-way ANOVA showed a significant difference in the changes concentration of lime peel essential oil against the growth of Streptococcus mutans. The higher concentration of the lime peel essential oil the lower the growth of Streptococcus mutans. The conclusion of this study is the lime peel essential oil (Citrus aurantifolia) is shown to have an influence on the growth of Streptococcus mutans in vitro. In this study the MIC and MBC values obtained at a concentration of 0.3%.
