Abstract

Candida albicans adalah jamur dimorfik dan merupakan penyebab utama infeksi jamur pada pasien yang rawat inap. Cangkang buah kawis (Limonia acidissima) diketahui memiliki zat−zat aktif yang berfungsi sebagai antijamur. Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk mengetahui efektivitas ekstrak etanol cangkang buah kawis (Limonia acidissima) sebagai antijamur terhadap Candida albicans. Sampel yang digunakan adalah 4 isolat jamur Candida albicans dari pasien yang berbeda. Cangkang buah kawis mengandung zat aktif seperti alkalaoid dan saponin. Pembuatan ekstrak buah kawis dilakukan melalui proses maserasi menggunakan pelarut etanol 96%. Metode penelitian ini menggunakan dilusi agar karena hasil ekstrak berwarna keruh. Variasi konsentrasi ekstrak yang digunakan sebesar 7%; 8%; 9%; 10%; dan 11% v/v. Pada konsentrasi 10% v/v tidak didapatkan pertumbuhan keempat isolat jamur. Hasil uji statistik non-parametrik Kruskall-Wallis menunjukkan adanya perbedaan efek antijamur pada setiap perlakuan konsentrasi ekstrak cangkang buah kawis terhadap pertumbuhan koloni Candida albicans (p < 0,05). Uji korelasi Spearman menunjukkan semakin tinggi konsentrasi ekstrak buah kawis, maka semakin rendah pertumbuhan koloni Candida albicans (r = -0,900; p < 0,05). Kesimpulan penelitian ini adalah ekstrak cangkang buah kawis memiliki efek antijamur terhadap Candida albicans secara in vitro dengan KHM sebesar 10% v/v.

English Abstract

Candida albicans is a dimorphic fungi and is the main cause of the fungal infection in hospitalised patients. Wood apple shell (Limonia acidissima) is known to has many of active subtances that can be used as an antifungal. This research was conducted to determine the effectiveness of the ethanol extract of wood apple shell (Limonia acidissima) as antifungal against Candida albicans. The samples are 4 isolats from different patients. Wood apple shell has an active substance like alkaloid and saponin. The extraction of wood apple shell was done through a maceration process using 96% ethanol. The research method was using an agar dillution method because of the color of the extract was turbid. The variations of the extract concentration are 7%; 8%; 9%; 10%; and 11% v/v. In the concentration of 10% v/v was not found of fungal growth from the 4 isolats. The result from the non-parametrical statistic Kruskall-Wallis test shows that there are differential antifungal effects of the extract concentrations of wood apple shell against the growth of Candida albicans (p < 0,05). Spearman correlation test shows that the higher concentration of wood apple shell extract, the lower growth of the colonies of Candida albicans (r = -0,900; p < 0,05). The conclusion of this research is the ethanol extract of wood apples shell has an antifungal effect against Candida albicans using in vitro method with the MIC is 10% v/v.
