Abstract
Mempelajari bahasa asing merupakan hal yang sangat penting untuk berjuang di era globalisasi yang dimana persaingan antara orang dari berbagai belahan dunia menjadi semakin ketat. Dalam proses mempelajari bahasa asing, para pelajar pasti akan melakukan kesalahan. Salah satu kesalahan tersebut disebut interlanguage. Interlanguage adalah sistem linguistik yang digunakan oleh pelajar bahasa kedua yang dipengaruhi oleh bahasa pertama dan aturan tata bahasa dari bahasa kedua. Dalam penelitian ini, peneliti menginvestigasi tipe-tipe kesalahan dalam essay tentang pengalaman pribadi yang dibuat oleh anggota AIESEC. Peneliti juga ingin mengetahui kesalahan terbanyak yang dihasilkan oleh mereka. Peneliti menggunakan metode kualitatif dan analisa konten untuk menjawab rumusan masalah. Dalam menganalisa data, peneliti menggunakan teori sumber kesalahan yang dikemukakan oleh Lott dan James. Data dalam penelitian ini adalah 13 essay tentang pengalaman pribadi selama menjabat sebagai anggota AIESEC yang dibuat oleh anggota AIESEC yang dipilih. Dalam pengumpulan data, peserta harus menulis essay dalam waktu 45 menit tanpa bantuan kamus. Semua tipe kesalahan ditemukan di studi ini kecuali overextension of analogy yang termasuk ke dalam tipe kesalahan interference. Kesalahan terbanyak yang ditemukan dalam studi ini adalah incomplete rule application dengan 181 kesalahan (54.9%), diikuti dengan exploiting redundancy dengan 32 kesalahan (9.7%), lalu overlooking cooccurrance restriction dengan 31 kesalahan (9.4%), overgeneralization dengan 27 kesalahan (8.2%), false analogy dengan 24 kesalahan (7.2%), interlingual dengan 16 kesalahan (4.8%), transfer of structure dengan 11 kesalahan (3.3%), misanalysis dengan 6 kesalahan (1.8%), dan yang paling sedikit adalah hypercorrection dengan 2 kesalahan (0.6%). Sebagai kesimpulan, meskipun anggota AIESEC sering menggunakan bahasa Inggris dalam banyak kegiatan mereka, mereka masih melakukan banyak error dalam tulisan mereka. Peneliti menyarankan peneliti selanjutnya yang ingin melakukan penelitian dengan topic yang sama untuk menggunakan teori lain dan objek yang berbeda seperti meneliti interview kerja dalam bahasa Inggris.
English Abstract
Learning a foreign language is a very important thing to strive in this globalization era where the competition between people from all over the world is getting tighter. In the process of learning a foreign language, learners will surely commit errors. One of the errors is called interlanguage. Interlanguage is a linguistic system used by second language learners that is influenced by the first language and the grammatical rules of the target language. In this study, the researchers investigated the types of errors in personal experience essay made by members of AIESEC Universitas Brawijaya. The researcher also wanted to know the most frequent type of error produced by them. The researcher used qualitative research and content analysis to answer the research problem. In analyzing the data, the researcher used sources of errors theory proposed by Lott and James. The data of this study were 13 essays about personal experiences of being an AIESECer made by selected members of AIESEC. In collecting the data, the participants had to write the essay in 45 minutes without consulting a dictionary. All of the types of errors were found in this study except overextension of analogy which is included in interference error. The most common error found in this study is incomplete rule application with 181 errors (54.9%), followed by exploiting redundancy with 32 errors (9.7%), overlooking cooccurrance restriction with 31 errors (9.4%), overgeneralization with 27 errors (8.2% ), false analogy with 24 errors (7.2%), interlingual with 16 errors (4.8%), transfer of structure with 11 errors (3.3%), misanalysis with 6 errors (1.8%), and the least percentage is hypercorrection with 2 errors (0.6%). As a conclusion, eventhough AIESEC members use English frequently in most of their activities, they still produced a lot of errors in their writing. The researcher suggested the next researchers who want to conduct a research with the same topic by using other theories with different objects such as conducting a research on a job interview in English.
