Abstract
Captain Fantastic adalah film drama keluarga Amerika yang disutradarai oleh Matt Ross yang menampilkan nilai anti-modern yang ditunjukkan oleh anggota keluarga Ben Cash. Sebagai keluarga yang tinggal di era modern, Ben dan anak-anaknya memiliki beberapa nilai berbeda dari keluarga lain di masyarakat modern. Oleh karena itu, tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengungkap dan menganalisa nilai anti modern di keluarga Ben Cash. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan sosiologis sebagai kerangka teoritis utama. Studi ini juga menggunakan teori Modernitas dari Giddens dan teori Anti-Modern dari Monceaux untuk mengungkap dan menganalisa nilai antimodern dalam keluarga Ben Cash. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa ada nilai anti modern dalam keluarga Ben Cash, yang tercermin dalam perilaku, aktivitas dan pemikiran para anggota keluarga. Terdapat empat hal penting yang berkaitan dengan nilai-nilai yang termasuk dalam cara bagaimana keluarga tinggal di hutan, menerapkan sistem pendidikan, hidup tanpa teknologi dan keinginan mereka untuk menjadi hemat dan mandiri dalam hal ekonomi. Peneliti menyimpulkan bahwa semua nilai yang ada dalam keluarga Ben Cash pada film Captain Fantastic adalah kritik terhadap kehidupan modern di era ini. Manifestasi nilai-nilai anti-modern dalam keluarga Ben Cash juga memicu spekulasi tentang kemungkinan menolak dan melawan nilai dan norma masyarakat di era ini.
English Abstract
Captain Fantastic is an American family drama movie directed by Matt Ross which shows anti-modern values performed by the members of Ben Cash's family. As a family who lives in modern era, Ben and his children have some values that are different from other family in modern society. Therefore, the aim of this study is to reveal and analyze the anti-modern values in Ben Cash's family. This study used the sociological approach as the main theoretical framework. This study also used Modernity theory by Giddens and Anti-Modern theory by Monceaux to reveal and analyze the anti-modern values in Ben Cash's family. The result of this study showed that there are anti-modern values in Ben Cash's family, which are reflected in the behavior, activities and way of thinking of the members of the family. There are four important points related to the values that include in the way the family live in wilderness, conduct their education system, live without technology and their desire to be economical and self-sufficient. The researcher concluded that all the values that exist in Ben Cash's family on Captain Fantastic are criticisms of the modernity in this era. The manifestation of anti-modern values by Ben Cash's family also sparks a speculation about the possibility to reject and against the value and norms of society in this era
