Abstract
Pertumbuhan populasi manusia yang tidak terkontrol dapat menyebabkan kerusakan lingkungan. Deforestation merupakan salah satu dari kerusakan lingkungan. Deforestation tidak hanya berarti penebangan hutan tanpa adanya usaha menanamnya tetatpi dapat juga diartikan berkurang/hilangnya fungsi hutan yang disebabkan kondisi alam atau ulah manusia. Salah satu film yang mendeskripsikan tentang kerusakan lingkungan adalah Over the Hedge (2006). Penelitian ini menggunakan teori ecocriticism dan konsep interaksi antara hewan dan manusia. Teori dan konsep tersebut digunakan untuk mengetahui adanya campur tangan manusia yang menyebabkan terjadinya kerusakan lingkungan. Penelitian ini mengaplikasikan metode kualitatif. Di dalam pengumpulan data, peneliti menangkap gambar yang berisikan potongan gambar adegan dan dialog. Ada dua poin yang dapat disimpulkan dari hasil penelitian ini. Pertama, sebab akibat perubahan fungsi hutan yang ada di film Over the Hedge. Penyebab utama adalah pertumbuhan populasi manusia yang mendorong mereka mengambil alih hutan untuk dijadikan tempat tinggal. hal ini menyebabkan terjadinya kerusakan lingkungan. Kedua, hasil dari perubahan fungsi hutan yang digambarkan pada film Over the Hedge. Deforestation dan pertumbuhan pesat populasi manusia adalah faktor penting yang menyebabkan perubahan fungsi hutan. Hutan yang berfungsi sebagai tempat tinggal para binatang, tempat berlindung dan penyedia sumber makanan bagi hewan telah hilang dikarenakan dua faktor yang menyebabkan hutan kehilangan fungsi sebagaimana mestinya. Kedua poin tersebut menyebabkan interaksi antara manusia dan hewan. Interaksi terjadi karena hewan terpaksa bertahan hidup setelah hutan yang mereka tinggali telah berubah dan juga sumber bahan pangan mereka berkurang atau hilang.
English Abstract
Environment degradation is the situation where nature becomes damaged due to behavior of human exploits in excess.Uncontrolled human population growth can cause environmental degradation. Deforestation is one of the causes environmental degradation. Deforestation does not only mean cut down without the effort to plant it but can also mean reduced / loss of forest functions caused by natural condition or man action. One film that describes environmental degradation is Over the Hedge (2006). This study uses the theory of ecocriticism and the concept of interaction between animals and humans. Concept of interaction between animals and humans mean the relationship that happen between human and animal. Theories and concepts are used to determine the existence of human intervention that causes the occurrence of environmental degradation. This research applies qualitative method. In the data collection, the researcher captures images which are containing pieces of scenes and dialogue to help analysing the data. There are two points that can be concluded from the results of this study. First, causes and effects of the changes in forest function that is reflected from Over the Hedge movie. The main cause is the growth of the human population that drives them to take over the forests to live in. This case causes environmental degradation. Second, the result of the change of forest function reflect in the Over the Hedge film. Deforestation and the rapid growth of human populations are important factors that lead to changes in forest function. Forests which function is for animal dwellings, shelter and food providers for animals have been lost due to two factors that cause forests to lose their proper function. Those points mentioned before cause interaction between humans and animals. Interactions occur because animals are forced to survive after the forests they live in have changed as well as their food sources are reduced or lost.
